Laguna Seca - 9/10/14 - 9/11/14

So last week, a bunch of us from the PNW headed down for two track days with Hooked on Driving at Laguna Seca.

MRLS is a bucket list track that I personally have always dreamed of driving on. I’m glad I had the chance to do so!

I made a time lapse of the drive down. Below is from day 2 (Redding, CA to Monterey, CA):

I have a bunch of pictures here from the photographer they had:

It was the first Hooked on Driving event I’ve been on and they’re great. First time point by passing anywhere on the track and quite frankly, I prefer it that way (less getting bunched up).

I’m still going through my videos, but here’s a helmet cam of my last session (before the battery ran out):

I was taking it easy since my track pads were just about toast and I was exhausted.

Also, here’s a video from my buddy’s B8 S4 from the second session of Day 1:

I put two wheels off at the exit of turn 3. lol had to recollect my nerves after that (I let him by as I ‘recovered’). Both B8 S4s (the camera car and the grey one) were on Nitto NT-01 (r-comps are on my shopping list for next season).

Shopping list for next season:

  • Telemetry - most likely Vbox Sport
  • r-comps/wheels
  • more brake pads lol
  • new GoPro (still on the original HD Hero)
  • Seat to run a harness

Looks excellent. Good read too

Is the corkscrew as steep s it seems?

How to make the unbelievably pretty RS5 look even prettier… take a pic of it at full tilt at Laguna Seca!

Thanks guys! Yup, the corkscrew is quite steep. Lots of fun driving through it. This rear mounted GoPro bid shows how steep it is. What most don’t realize is that it keeps sloping down after the corkscrew as well.

I still need to sort through and upload a few more videos.

this is really nuts. Looks like an RS5 hanging on a wall.

Very cool, Scott! Great thread.

That’s one of my favorite pics. You can see the suspension compression and also the tires compressing too.

Such a wonderful corner.

Brake to middle of track, turn left and hit the blind crest, pause, and turn right to go diagonal across it and track out, come back to middle for a downhill sweeping left hander that tightens up a bit near the apex and turns to off camber. Another fast right hander and you are then hard on brakes for a tight left hand turn, and onto the straight.

I want to go back there so bad…

Is it 1:51-ish? http://youtu.be/untGNc-Gfls?t=1m51s

Yup! That’s the one!

Fucking awesome Scott… Fucking awesome… Car looks incredible… Thanks for sharing…

Sweet! Love your car ;D

Psychotik…in our go pro thread check the section about external microphones.

Grab that audiotechnica Lavallier Mic. It works wonders for eliminating that compressed, digitized noisy go pro sound

Nice!

Thanks, guys!

Funny thing that. I actually bought the Audio-Technica mic only to find out that my Go Pro (first gen HD Hero) does NOT have a mic jack… LOL!

So I’ll be waiting for the GoPro 4 to come out.

Can’t you use the little go pro plug?

Rumor is that the Hero 4 Black will film in 4k @ 30fps… That will make for some pretty sweet footage.

Those photos are great. looks like a blast!

I still haven’t figured out the point of 4K

It looks better than 1080p if you’re closer than 6 feet to your TV…aka where nobody sits. Is there another use that I haven’t figured out? My phone films in 4k I think…but I can’t see any reason to.

I want my gopro/phone to film in 200 fps. Unrealistic I know, but I want super high speed frame rate for slow motion stuff. I have a gopro 3 black. Anyone know what it can actually do? Is it as good as my Samsung Note 3?
