Leaking water pump

So long story short, my water pump is leaking. It’s the only place the coolant can be coming from up front.

My question is, how “easy” is it to replace without doing the entire TB. I still have 30-35k left on my TB until it needs to be serviced. On top of that I don’t have the money to do it or I would.

Just to service the water pump will I need any special tools to do this. I already have the waterpump and gasket an need to get it on ASAP. My car is pissing coolant.

Damn dude that sucks, I know exactly how you feel I just went through similar scenario with 30k+ you don’t want to do it, but the safe play is to do it. Curious how much a water pump was by itself? because JHM’s timing belt kit which includes one is only 450$ which I’m sure you already know.

From where I saw the water pump is located I’m pretty sure its impossible to get to without service position…

I got it for about 70 bucks.

But after seeing the pick, I’m putting myself on suicide watch. Thanks bud

All jokes aside, I’m not worried about service mode, I’ve done it before back in my “youth” of working on this car. I think? Lol

Scratch that. Ive never taken off the radiator or put it in service mode, all I’ve done is take of the complete front bumper.

This sucks.

There was a really good DIY with pics on audiworld but when I checked the pics aren’t showing up. But I did find this video. It will help you see how it comes apart. I think you could definitly do it yourself if you could get your hands on some cam locks. IMO though I wouldn’t do it without having a kit and doing everything, that would be a lot of work to just do a water pump and I would even consider doing the thermostat too, I think its only a few hours labor more or something like that.

Edit- forgot to mention you have to buy their kit to rent one. Maybe ask JHM if they could do something like that. You never know they might be able to.

Long story short, it’s done. Gasket is sealed and car is running good.

The old gasket took a shit, as seen here :

It def was a pain in the as but at the end of the day I’m happy and my car is back up and running. Cleaned up the bay a tad, fresh valve cover gaskets and some new paint for em
