Has your car got the flap delete mod? I’ve asked them for a reflash to avoid the error codes. No idea about the flatshift. Have you asked dru or jake?
So when are you starting your motor build? I thought the compression should be lowered to 9.5:1 vs 9:1 what your saying.
They do you would have to ask for it. but in the other side of the spectrum the more power you make the more you are going to not want things like flatshift. Big hp cars make a ton of Tq on the new cars like the RS6 and RS7 they pull out hp just before the shift and during the shift they are on much quicker shifting systems then yourself. a manual car puts tq full force onto the drive train. letting the motor spin down a little bit is going to help keep your transmission syncros and other drive line parts very happy just a FYI
i thought the flatshift was retarding ignition relieving stress from the gearbox to change quicker and thinking safe as well (i may be completely wrong here)…will need to discuss more with jhm on this.
just getting back to iconics’ comments I also tried calling jhm by talking to Dru about a built motor (i am thinking to get a 2nd one for this purpose) but the answer was a plain no with no further details as to whom we could talk to for further assistance/guidance etc.
for my case, being so happy with the work jhm did its a one way street to have them guide, buy parts from, involve them in the whole process of a built motor…only that they share nothing. do we have any access to the “technical guys” that have the insight?! again i guess its a bit of a dead end if we cannot buy parts from jhm that they have tested and can vouch that they work at a specific S/C pressure…there is no need to play around with the motor.
last but not least, on the number’s game…are there any numbers in the air on whp that car can get with a build motor?
As mentioned dropping the comp ratio is a big mistake espically going down that far. look to the newer cars as a reference of what is being used. and just general understanding of the dynamics in building a motor.
The max pressure from what the Vortech site lists is 28 but blower speed is also something you need to look at as well. the good side is that vortech blowers run great at high rpm and are very well suited to the high rpm of the RS4. The JHM blower seems to have tons of head room left power wise almost twice as much as currently being used.
The idea as I understand it with JHM is to keep the boost low and efficient to keep stress down on all the motor components and help make a long term power solution where you don’t have any issues and so far JHM seems to have pulled that off with no issues. With some older stage 1 S4 cars now looking to be well over 50k on the kit.
As for technical guys. Look to jimmybones or countvohn they would be your best bet. I have my thoughts and some insite as well but those guys have probably a little more info than me.
As for the motors from JHM. For a long time JHM was putting stage 1+ kits on S4s and RS4s while telling others that there was no options for sale with the stage 1+. I know JHM is the one company that will test test and test some more before they start taking money for something. I wouldn’t jump the gun just yet. If countvohn said he and others were getting built motors there might be something soon to come down the line.
Thanks a bad ass test picture LOL
