Light-weight wheels

Trying to compile a pretty comprehensive list of sub-$500 wheels here that are 20lbs or less. Please post with weight/size/offset if you know of others. I’m looking at 18" wheels here, obviously sub-20lbs is easy to achieve in 17". Pulled some info from this audizine thread: http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/444573-Lightweight-wheels thanks guys.

Stuff available Tirerack:
Enkei Racing RPF1 - 17.8 lbs / 18x8 / et35
O.Z. Alleggerita HLT - 18.1 lbs / 18x8 / et35
Enkei Racing PF01 - 18.2 lbs / 18x8 / et45
O.Z. Ultraleggera - 18.6 lbs / 18x8 / et35
TRMotorsport MT1 - 19.5 lbs / 18x8 / et35

Others:
Forgestar F14 - 17.6 lbs / 18x8.5 / et48
Forgestar CF5 - 19.95 lbs / 18x8.5 / unknown offset
TSW Interlagos - 18.85 lbs / 18x8 / et35
TSW Nuburgring - 18.6 / 18x8 / et35
Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 - 19.8 lbs / 18x8 / unknown offset
Neuspeed RSe07 - 19.3 lbs / 18x8 / et45

The two lightest tires that I found in 255/35/18 were both 23 lbs:
Hankook Ventus V12 evo K110 (245/35/18 is spec’d at 22 lbs)
Continental ExtremeContact DW (245/35/18 is spec’d at 21 lbs)

OE wheel weights:
USP - 26lbs

19lbs? That sounds pretty light for 18inch, I could of swore my stock 17" sport rims were 26lbs, or maybe I’m getting confused and the new 19" peelers I wanted. But I would like this clarified cuz I am considering switching to the Ultra sport rims and 19lbs is actually pretty, I think?

Hmm I’d be very surprised if the stock Audi wheels were that light. Typically its more like 26-28lbs for 18s

19lbs sounds light. Sucks about the car off the road thing.

As for L/W rims. check out the OZ superlegarra rims. There nice. Also the Rs6 reps are not a bad way to go if you get the lighter knock off rims. The Rs4 07 knock off rims look great but they weigh a ton. The best rims if you can find them are SSR comps. A good L/W rim thread is a great way to go. Ill see If I can search and start some tech data in the thread for you

That 19lbs number is what I remember reading on a website before I purchased the car. Trying like hell to find that website, it had wheel specs for all kinds of audis.

I like the way you think haha

for sure. Do they even make those any more?

Well I’ve been digging around and I’ve found a few options. I’m not interested in anything like BBS, SSR or Advan wheels that are insanely expensive(imo). I’m looking at sub-$2000 for a set of 4 wheels. I’m also trying to stick with 18" so I can fit the JHM 350mm BBK in the future.

OZ Racing is a good option for light weight and are readily available(tirerack), but I don’t think any of them look that great.

Neuspeed has some decent offerings:

Forgestar… They have an 18x8.5 wheel that weighs in at 17.6 lbs and are fairly priced! The only downside is these wheels are custom made and take around 4-8 weeks from order to delivery. I’m going with this one for sure and I’m going to figure out a temporary setup to run until they deliver.

Forgestars look like a great option, I just know Dan@JHM ordered a set and they were heavier than advertised.

I’d go with the nuespeeds I only know of one set that went bad, my buddy Greg had all 4 develop small cracks but that’s because of the roads in Rhode Island

Yeah I figured that out after I placed the order. To their credit, the weights they advertise are for higher offsets than what our cars need. I don’t think we can find a better looking wheel in that weight and price range. The F14s look great.

I went with 18x9 instead of 18x8.5 since the 18x8.5 blocks aren’t currently in stock and will delay the order by “another month or two”. Forgestar recommended a 42mm offset for the 18x9 wheels. Ground to fender, I have 25.25" front and 25.75" rear ride height. Will I be able to fit 235/40/18 front and 255/40/18 rear? I currently have the stock USP wheels, which as far as I know are 18x8 et43, with no rubbing issues on 245/40/18 all around, even after adding 10mm spacers.

bump for edited first post

monster edit. Great post now. I love the weights.

What would be a great addition…and I know its lots of work that Im not going to do but its still a suggestion for those interested. Get the tire weights.

I have the oz superleggara’s that are 17lbs and with wheels the total weight with tires is 40lbs. I know I could have found a tire that weight was 3lbs less and that would have continued to help keep the weight loss down. knowing the weights of tires is also going to be helpfull

Tire weight is something I’ve definitely been pondering over. Unfortunately tirerack doesn’t let you sort or search by tire weight.

I just ran through all of the extreme performance summer and max performance summer tires in 255/35/18 and I found a few things. The more expensive tires seem to be heavier for some reason… and weight is gained or lost drastically in sidewall height. A few examples:
Hankook Ventus V12 evo K110
255/35ZR18 - 23 lbs
255/40ZR18 - 27 lbs
255/45ZR18 - 29 lbs

The two lightest tires that I found in 255/35/18 were both 23 lbs:
Hankook Ventus V12 evo K110 (245/35/18 is spec’d at 22 lbs)
Continental ExtremeContact DW (245/35/18 is spec’d at 21 lbs)

Keep in mind the sidewall height, the second number, is not a measurement in mm, it is a percentage of the tire width.

Tires are a big deal. I gained the over .3 in the 1/4 mile from just switching the rims and tires to a 37lb each rim and tire.

37lbs per corner is a very specific number ;D

my LW wheels

Hankook RS3s on these, but from everythign I’ve heard the V12s are a terrific tire as well (not just weight and cost, but also grip and wear)

Yeah, I absolutely love my V12s. Running on these Pirelli whatevers temporarily is funny because I find myself breaking traction in turns quite frequently and easily. The RS3 is definitely a better track tire though.

Beermercer: What wheels are those?

Shawn: What wheels/tires do you run?

They look like Advan’s or Eneiki’s (if thats how you spell it lol)

.3?? Daaaang. I think after doing winter tires on my stockers some forgestars and hankook evo’s might be in my future next spring then!

SSR Comps, 17"x8.5" ET35 with the 255/40 RS3s. Iirc its about 42lbs per corner, heavier than I’d like but that’s mostly because the tires are so beefy

OZ’s I had 1set crack but the last set was good. Getting a bigger side wall is good for the lighter rims
