Looking at a C6S6

I have been lurking here for a few months and have learnt a lot. You guys know these cars! Hope you can throw a bit of feedback my way on a 07 S6 i’m looking at. Here’s a little info.

High km(closer to 250k than 200k)
One owner
Dealer service history(for the most part)
Long block replaced under warranty at 38000km
Coil packs replaced under warranty at 109000km

The following was done at 189k
Left valve cover and gasket
Right valve cover gasket
Oil filter housing gasket
Carbon clean
Both high pressure fuel pumps
Inner cv boot
Pvc oil separator and vent hose
Thermostat
Front pads and rotors

Any feedback would be great ie(run away fast or why is it not in my driveway)

Thanks

I’m going to speak in American dollars and miles since that’s what makes sense to me, lol…

The answer is probably somewhere in the middle. It really depends on a lot of factors, including whether or not you’re getting a great deal on the price. I would personally be cautious about any car with 150k miles on the clock, but for a great price maybe it’s worth it. Keep in mind that maintenance costs the same now as it did when it was a $70k car. If you pick up this car for, say, $15k, and it turns out it’s a little behind on maintenance, it could easily become a $25k car within the first few months. On the other hand, if that cost doesn’t scare you away, you’ll end up with a great car that’s worth every penny of $25k, in my opinion.

Personally, if I had $25k to spend on a C6 S6, I’d rather pay more upfront and buy one with closer to 50k miles on the clock. But for the right price, I could also be talked into buying one with 150k, but it would have to be a pretty steep discount on the price.

Also, that service history suggests that the previous owner mostly focused on fixing things as they broke, rather than preventative work. So there’s likely a lot of stuff going on that isn’t completely broken “yet”, but might be getting pretty close.

So i guess the C6S6 was for me. I just put a deposit down on the one i spoke about earlier . I think a little background info on my situation might be helpfull for you all at this point. I work as a forklift tech and drive a service van 5 days a week which i bring home every day. In 2009 i bought my wife a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 13,000KM which now has 93,000km on it. In April of this year i bought her a 2002 Audi TT with 186,000miles(us car)(dirt cheap, needed a little bit of tlc). Car now is at 193,000miles(wife loves it). The Jeep has done 653km since the middle of July. Back in July i said to myself, what kind of high mileage, high power Audi could i get for what i could sell the Jeep for? Well,i looked at some high km/mileage S4’S with no history and said no thanks. Saw the high mileage S6 and it kind of scared me. Used dealer couldn’t move it(not surprised). D id some research and thought this might work. My wife wants to drive the TT until the snow flies on is ON THE GROUND.
Picked up the car today to take it for a compression test and general checkover(it has Audi dealer service history) and is 2007 one owner vehicle. During the compression test i was made aware of oil leaks into some of the spark plug tubes.Based on my own visual inspection three or four cylinders might have very small valve cover leaks, three or four may have small leaks from the cam holder gaskets? As my plan is to drive this car 3000km to 5000km per year these issues do not bother me at all.Check regularly and keep from creeping up coilpack and causing misfires. Only other thing the tech brought to light was the upper control arm bushings might need to be monitored.
Just as a little FYI to my Toronto peeps, i had the work done at Enginerred Automotive in Concord. Never used them before and they are not cheap.(155 per). I Felt like i got value for my money and some of the cars were like WOW. Two Ford GT’S, A lambo Diablo V12 in for exhaust manifolds and lots more.
OH SHIT,FORGOT THE IMPORTANT PART. I PAID $10,500 Canadian for the car Certified and with Emission test.

Congratulations !!!

You got a steal on the car

Please post pics!

Welcome to the revolution…

The compression test should have been 180 or better. That should tell you if the motor was in good shape or not. If you can post the results it might be a good idea to start documenting the results guys get. But from the 4 or 5 guys I have helped compressiont test for over 180 is good.

as for the valve cover gaskets. If your on a budjet a good idea would be to pull the intake to do the carbon clean and pull off both of the valve cover gaskets… If you can replace the valve cover gaskets and add extra RTV this should really help out the oil issues. If you have the chance put in the JHM intake spacers that helps drop the under hood temps as well as intake temps. That is over all good for keeping seals healthy.

These cars are great cars. The only real down fall is if you let some of the little issues get too far out of hand it can be expensive to come back from

all these new kids on the playground! Welcome! Score on that car! \o/

So I picked up the car last night and drove it the 100km home on the highway.Yeah, kinda wow. Ok just WOW. Wish i didn’t have to drive a POS service van every day! I must have missed the maintenance book in the glove box all 4 times i looked at the car.
So upon review i see the oil changes were done and logged in the book with Audi dealer stamp at 9187km,23913km,38675km,49698km,66085km,82400km,109184km,117493km,132534km,148624km,157358km,178908km and a receipt for the work done that i mentioned before which included filter replacement(have to think oil change was done too). After that i have Audi dealer receipts for 210498km and 228033km and the car has 238221km now.
My wife drove it to work today and sent me a text that it was a very nice ride and loved the heated seats. She called me on her lunch to check the phone was working(i set it up last night along with getting her in the drivers seat and setting seat, steering wheel and mirror positions). She also said she needs to be really careful how hard she touches the gas pedal because it snapped her head back and kind of surprised her. She drove 3km to work in D. One day i might introduce her to the S. Not soon but someday!! lol
On a down note, second key battery was dead(fixed tonight)and passenger rear brake and indicator bulb is worky,no worky.
Also looked closely at vagcom printout from inspection, almost all codes were from what he did and also had one code logged from Jan 2015(guessing codes hadn’t been cleared in a long time?)
One final thing,i uploaded some pics to an album titled S6(11 pics i think)but i have no idea how to put them here so if anyone can help me out it would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

Almost forgot,as my plan is my wife will use this car mostly in the winter(winter beater!! lol) it was awesome that it came with Bridgestone Blizzacks on the factory rims that are almost new. If i do a couple of runs to friends cottages (guessing 1500km total for the summer i might just leave them on and save for a set of summers or repairs/upgrades(intake spacers?)

Sounds good. Intake spacers are great, although I need to order a new set. Tune and exhaust seem to be the only must-do things I guess. I wish you luck and same to all of the other V10 guys. The maintenance can add up if you go through trying to fix everything, or at least it did for me so far. C’est la vie lol.

Regarding your brake light issue, that’s the sign of a failing circuit board in the tail light according to the Audi dealership I spoke with yesterday. They said it will end up needing to be replaced entirely, so I went ahead and ordered one on ebay today. Godspeed.

To embed pics you upload the picture or copy the image url and insert it in center of code using the button/image/icon 2nd from the left on the 2nd row <reads ‘Insert Image’ when mouse-over>.

Here is a link to your folder.

http://audirevolution.net/view-album/210/s6

All your pictures are in there and any more you load will be in there. so save that link or you can just go into the picture section and find your folder that is what I did.

A few things.

Dont forget to hit enter and space out your posts with a few paragraphs. No body really cares here if you have walls of text but it does make it a little easier to read from time to time.

As for posting pictures.

There is a picture icon just above the box you type text into. When you click the picture icon it will put this html tag in your post

img] [/img

I removed the outside [ and ] so the actual tag would show up on the page.

The img tag has a break in it you post the link of the picture you want inbetween them.

So you would go into your picture folder. Right click on the photo you want and select the copy link option. Or you can open the picture you want to link into the thread and copy the information in the adress bar at the top of the screen.

So here is how I post this picture

http://audirevolution.net/addons/albums/images/872881937.jpg

I clicked a link to your folder. Found the picture I wanted. From there I right clicked and got the copy data location and that information was

http://audirevolution.net/addons/albums/images/872881937.jpg

as you can see if you just post the data location with no tag nothing happens. So I then click the picture tab

http://

and I drop the picture data location in between the tag

and the results look like this

The car looks great by the way. Again welcome to the forum. If you have more questions always ask. AR is the site for people who enjoy car people and enjoy helping car realted or not.

Thanks for all the reply’s and thanks to Justin for the info about the pics, might take me a bit to figure it out but i will get it sorted.lol.

Ok,so first real question. In the cold weather with my Jeep i would go out and start it to warm up with one key and lock it with the button on the other key and go in the house. All good. With the TT i start it with one key and double turn with the other key in the passenger door to lock it.

So my question is how can i do something similar with the S6. Tried to put key in the door lock and it wouldn’t go in properly so that is out. Tried to start with start button and leave key in the car and lock with the button on the other key. No go. Is it a programing thing or something i need the Ross-Tech for or just not going to happen no how. Thanks in advance for any info you guys can provide!

On a side note, while i was showing the Jeep tonight my wife made a quick trip to the mall(3km each way),she came back and said she hit the pedal hard on the one street and with a little smirk said “this thing goes like stink, doesn’t it?”

Ok,second question, anyone on here have your spouse as the primary driver of the car?

Few things.

On the pictures if you have issues still go and step into the how to section of the forum and make a post there. We can deticate a thread to helping you with just that if you have more questions.

as for warming up the car. let me make sure my caps is on to help express importance. YOU SHOULD NEVER START AND NOT DRIVE YOUR S6 WITH IN 45 SECONDS.

These motors are all aluminum not aluminum with sleeves they are 100% aluminum blocks. They have a warm up function in the ECU and if you read the owners manual it will even say never start and let your car sit to warm up.

Letting the car just sit and warm up on a cold day will clog the PCV system create carbon build up and cause cylinder wall score issues due to how the block will warm up unevenly.

Starting and driving the car with low RPMs part throttle will allow the car to warm up saver and twice as fast as letting the car sit idle. There is the in cabon recirculation button you can hit on the heating options. That will heat the inside of the cabon faster.

I know this is not a direct answer to your question but I thought it was important to mention.

So Justin don’t wait until the RPM drop before taking off? what about if the idle is still rough and the car hasn’t “settled”, still drive?

that’s uh…kindof a big deal. I’m glad you posted it and glad I read it because heading outside and warming up the cars for the kiddos is part of the winter morning routine. Was going to look at remote start options - I guess now completely unneeded.

…at least the wife’s sportwagon will be toasty in the mornings.

Thanks, I didn’t know this. Now I do lol…
