Looks like APR released the RS5 tune...

http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/508071-APR-Presents-the-Audi-B8-RS5-4-2L-FSI-V8-ECU-Upgrade!

Not bad gains… Not sure I buy the accel times given Arin is using the display vs raw file data but it is apples to apples at least… I know my car showed 3.3 0-60 on the read out but the file showed 3.8x

Really tempted to order one of these cars as I want a coupe since I dumped my mustang… Unfortunately, I really want a 6-speed car since the only stick car I have is my daily now… decisions decisions! lol

Not sure how much experience you’ve had with naturally aspirated Audis, but there’s (so far) only one tuning company whose software has proved worth a lick. Might be a while before they get to the RS5 though. Who knows.

RS5 is awesome. I’m officially in love with it but from a distance. I like having four doors, and being a hair less flash.

Never owned an NA Audi Saki, but read tons on here and other forums… I know JHM is the tuner of choice but to your point who knows how long it will take… Just figured I would share that APR has a tune… Maybe I could pay/bribe the Count to tune it for me if I got one… He is in MI, correct?

I’m with you though I love the looks of the car… I plan on keeping the S4 either way and want a coupe…

Good stuff, just wanted to make sure you knew some of the history. At one point APR employees were (quietly) recommending people NOT get their B7 S4 tune. Pretty funny.

Changing timing a litlte, AFR a little, throttle restrictions eliminated, rev limiter bumper, speed limiter bumped. That’s what the APR/GIAC/etc. tunes will do on the RS5 (and that’s what they did on the B6/7 cars too) . So half a dozen changes or so. I mentioned this in a thread and an APR employee angrily chastised me with ‘WELL WHAT ELSE IS THERE TO CHANGE???’. I just smiled quietly knowing my JHM tune, 2010 vintage, for my B7 S4 had at the time 90 changes to stock. The 2012 vintage JHM 4.2 S4 tune has over 130 changes to stock.

Anyway, the changes APR make on the RS5 should be enough to produce a little bit of delta. The annoying throttle restriction alone is enough to change quite a bit of the feel of the car.

I’m just not sure it’s worth voiding the warranty of an $80,000 car for ‘a little bit of delta’. If we’re talking about their TVS1900 supercharger kit, by all means, void away lol. But not sure about an APR tune.

Any word on development of the TVS1900 stuff altogether? I heard they also bought an Rs4, which leads me to speculate they’ll offer a B7 RS4 TVS1900 kit too.

We spent quite a bit of time on this ECU upgrade and changed quite a few values for making it accelerate more quickly. Obviously, this will not show up on the graph. On the RS5 we have unique access to the ECU which actually allows us to do changes in real time (this was not available on the B7 RS4). It’s an MED17.x ECU setup. That direct access helps quite a bit to apply a chance and instantly see if it does anything positive or negative. It’s good for tuning cruising gas mileage changes and such. Do note, we don’t change knock detection / sensitivity.

Full program switching is available on this ECU. Valet mode is hilarious. Launching is a joke, it barely does anything. Power is super limited. RPM limited. Speed limited. No valet would ever consider playing with the car in that mode.

One thing I would like to point out is that everyone was expecting 50+ HP because of all the german tuning companies around the world stating 500+ HP RS5s with tuning. What an absolute joke. I can’t find any dyno graphs from these companies to back up their claims, and for good reason… there simply aren’t gains like they said. My research even showed some of these claims were made before these tuners were even into the ECU. I can’t stand that dishonesty!

I’ve found very little data from any other tuning of this vehicle anywhere in the world. However, the only spots I ever find anything is in countries with terrible fuel quality. (Think Russia, middle east, etc). With horrible gas, in stock mode, the ECU will pull loads of timing and will throw the vehicle into a lower than normal performance mode. With tuning they can lower the performance to match their local fuel grades and make more power than stock, and they can show a gain as they are no longer in a protected state. However, don’t expect to meet the advertised stock numbers doing that, let alone 30-50+ more than advertised stock.

Anyways, this platform is fast with the tune. Launching is fun. There’s a good difference between stock and chipped and you can switch back and forth to see it on your own. I’m just getting really excited for our supercharger. This platform should be incredibly fast.

Aww…you’re missing out there. LOADS of gains to be had. Call this number for help.

No thanks!

Go hit the dragstrip in that RS5. We promise nobody will make fun of you if you run 12.8. I just want to see some RS5 times on the database. Stock would be great, really. Can you run it on stock file?

S7 too.

We’ll really need to find the time to do it. I would like some base line data, but I do want a weekend off for once.

The RS5, S7 and S8 would all be interesting to see.

You guys have an S8 too now? Damn.

Did you indeed buy an RS4? I thought I saw you mention that somewhere.

Also, any thoughts on the 4.0TT in the S6/7 vs. the 4.0TT in the S8? I hear conflicting reports about turbo size, strength of internals etc.

The S8 just came in the other day. The RS5 is ours as well.

The 4.0TT in the S7 is quick, but it REALLY needs a tune.

The 4.0TT in the S8 is far more powerful. It’s a beast of a vehicle, and it pulls so hard. I’m terribly excited to see how much torque it can produce, especially on race fuel. : )

There are quite a few changes between the two. Larger components. more air boxes. etc. We’re already into the ECUs so we may have some results up (at least stock figures anyways) in the following weeks.

Saki, I hear your point on the warranty issues with a tune… Wonder if they will be as strict with the NA engine and tuning? My dealer is really good to me and so far I have avoided any flags, not sure how they are doing it but they told me not to worry about it…

No word on the blower upgrade yet, which bums me out since it means I’ll probably have to wait until next year since I don’t drive the car in the winter… Maybe someone else posting in here can give an update :stuck_out_tongue:

Arin, thanks for chiming in… I’ll finally be testing the fuel this weekend at the strip and will send you logs Sat. and/or Sunday… If I go both days I’ll use the Shell one day and GT260 the next so we have comparable logs to review… Supposed to rain Sunday though… I’m with Saki, get some passes on those cars ;D I know Fonzie plans on taking his S6 soon… Want to see how close real world is to the 12.1 from MT…

Any hints on the blower upgrade for my slow S4… I am going to need something to keep up with the S6’s of the world!

I don’t think it’s a matter of strictness, as much as it’s a matter of the new cars have this protocol where they are scanned for work and reset (vag com stuff disappears etc). As part of that protocol, it grabs an image of the ECU and that’s where the TD1 comes from. NA or not, it’s kind of an automatic thing.

What they do with it from there…well that’s where we get conflicting reports on how big of a deal TD1 is, as we have seen from various members who had success, and others who were denied.

The Rs4 for example, they don’t do it. That protocol was not in place for that particular ECU.

i.e. my wife’s B8 A4 Avant gets her vagcom changes wiped out periodically when we take it for service, while my RS4 never does. They reset the B8, but that’s not part of the process for the B7. That’s how I understand it anyway.

The good news if you get your B7 Rs4 tuned or supercharged, you’re not looking at an automatic TD1 flag. The bad news is that I’m sure they could dig enough and find it.

With respect to Fonzie and his PBIR pass in his S6, I’m betting it runs 12.1 or better, provided it’s not 99 degrees out. That track posts records like it is its job. It’s apparently concrete the whole way down, so traction is pretty epic.

I’ll volunteer to fly where ever you need me to make some passes. I’ll do it all for free…

TVS 1900??? I thought they were way too long so the pulley and shaft didnt line up at all making this blower not probable for the 4.2

I just ordered a TVS1320 from APR yesterday!

AMD is using the TVS1900 on the RS4…and we’re all speculating APR will do the same with the RS4/RS5 (not sure about S5)

if you ordered that for the S5, I am sure you will be hpapy. It’s an excellent kit. AMD doesn’t seem to have one…JHM’s S5 blower will be a long ways out…TTS is $20,000. I think at $13,000 or whatever that new special package deal is, that’s a nice setup. We know the tune is good too.

As long as it Saki approved that is all that matters to me ^ If it wasnt for Saki I would have bought a PES charger for my B6 years ago and probably ended up like this guy - http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/484182-JHM-tune-for-PES-supercharged-B6-S4

Ya picked it up for 11k through Eurocode tuning with install, same company i ordered the KW coils from! But I may have it installed here if i just cant wait for a Cali trip when I have time!!!

that’s pretty solid, $11,000 installed???

Reckoning installation will cost $1500 or thereabouts at most shops, you’re basically paying the old PES/VF S4 kit price but it is for an APR kit with TVS1320 and a JHM tune on it. That’s pretty sweet. Won’t fuck up your engine as the blower is not big enough to stress your shit out. Kit is designed well with decent cooling.

Only problem will be when other kits show up and start blasting out great numbers, but as I said above that’s going to be a while away and frankly if you’re driving an 11.9 @ 116 type of car vs. an 11.5 @ 122 type of car, I don’t think you’re going to lose any sleep. At least it’s no longer going to be a 13.2 @ 102 type of car!

I can’t say it enough, the APR Stage 3 B8 S5 supercharger software is APR software. It was calibrated in house by APR calibration engineers, and all of the code changes were made by APR electrical engineers.

You can continue your conspiracy theories all you want, but you have not shown an ounce of proof to say otherwise. It would be as simple as asking JHM to come in here and tell the world the calibration and code changes were theirs.

just like paying for something makes it “yours”
