Looks nice...but does 3" make sense? Custom RS4 exhaust

will be interesting to see how this develops. Custom 3" x-pipe RS4 catback, magnaflow mufflers, milltek oval tips. Is it downpipes too? looks like it

the guy had a milltek fullback before and was dissatisfied.

i sent them an email and they want 5-6K for this exhaust which i think is way too high and i thought on the tts thread that someone did not get good gains out of the 3" exhaust.

5-6k? holy shit o_O

well ask JHM how much their first exhaust cost to make. Probably similar.

gotta ask the right person and you can get the first run stuff done cheaper

Tried on my car and showed no gains at all over milltek

Not all exhausts of similar diameter are the same.

you could say 2.5" doesn’t work on the B6/7 S4 because the XYZ’s exhaust with sharp bends, no crossover and baffled mufflers didn’t work very well…but we know for sure that a Fast Intentions with gentle bends, a beautiful xpipe and straight through perforated core mufflers works fantastically well.

agree…i would either go with the jhm or ebwerks for their 2.75"

or i am sure this place can do it cheaper

  1. didn’t you buy Mick’s exhaust?
  2. where’s your RS4 timeslip?

I don’t know who bought Mick’s exhaust, but I know it wasn’t him.

oh you know Ben, don’t try to hide it. BTW, would like a ride in your car! Friday good?

I actually don’t know who it was sold to, Mick told me he sold it, and Steve told me he didn’t buy it.

I would be more than happy to give you a ride, the exhaust is off the car right now and at the fabricator for measurements and jig development, I can let you know when it is back on if you would like. Not terribly exciting with the stock exhaust :stuck_out_tongue:

do you know where smegma’s timeslips are? Or do you think he’s making it all up?

stock exhaust?

i think it will be great for ben to give you a ride in his car once the exhaust gets back on it.

the car sounds really good.

the reason i did not buy mick’s jhm exhaust was bc i thought i could get a better one from ben. this has not been totally determined yet. but also mick’s jhm exhaust was bottoming out due to his car being lowered. i was worried if i go stasis ms one day i would have the same issue. one of the pluses of ben’s was that it fit better according to ben/mick.

@saki I am surprised you did not buy it. I did suggest that you should have bought it when you had the chance. You claim soon you will have enough money saved up to make the first mod on your car which is going to be an exhaust. i am assuming you are going jhm, i guess you missed a great deal.

i lol’ed!

Why no time slip?

On the 3" exhaust, I have seen a few people talk about this being a very good setup for supercharged cars like the TTS or probably the AMD setup, not sure on AMD, just a guess. But as with most any exhaust, just slapping it on without a tune to take advantage of it is retarded. I am sure that my JHM setup was not going to put down 360/293 by itself. And the tune alone was not going to put down 360/293 alone. So if the guy who says it felt like a Milltek, just popped it on and expected instant results above and beyond a Milltek, he found out quick thats not the case.

As far as a 3" on an NA car, based on things I have heard from AMD, this car is optimal with a 2.75" for NA. When going up to a 3", you still have the issue that the header pipes are only 2.5" anyways. Also I think there is something to be said about maintaining velocities in the exhaust. With cooling, contraction of exhaust gases, and uniform oversized pipes, this could have something to do with why its not getting as much as say a 2.75" system. Maybe it stalls and causes pressure waves. With a supercharger though, there is alot more air flowing in and exhaust flowing out of the car.

$5-$6k seems high. JHM was not this much, and thats with the x-pipe, the hot swap cats and test pipes.

I have a tentative buyer for my setup. He is in the UK though. Shipping is a bear. I am working with him on it, but we also need to wait for Ben’s setup. Hoping it is here in a couple weeks. Also I told him the shipping costs and he may be second guessing it. Not cheap, and thats cutting it in half right before the mufflers to pack tighter. We will see what happens. i have someone else more local (seattle) interested as well, but we shall see if he is really interested or just talking about it.

Lastly, guys cmon, the time slip thing is getting old. Stop beating on people or dead horses. I am sure swesna ran a good run, we all know 12.75 is possible. I am sure he did something close to that. Disparaging it will not change the fact thats what he claimed, and without a time slip its just a claim, unverified as everyone knows Leave it at that. Its doing nobody any good beating on this every thread. its not like we are awarding trophies or money here. If he said he did high 12’s, and it is possible for a stock car, then I see no reason why he didn’t. Its just not a time of record for “official” tracking.

We have no problem with people claiming good times Mick, Its just when someone who is full of shit claimes MID 12’s, a second later gets called out and then edits his original post with HIGH 12’s… thats when we have a problem.

We just hate liars >:(

Thats the only reason were on his case… either provide the slip or come clean.

Yes, exactly, $5-6k is right on par for our cost making the first exhaust. You can’t ever get it right the first time and it almost always takes multiple revisions to get it perfect. We are on revision 3 now and are happy with the fitment.
