Lost one of my car keys. Anyone know what I need to do?

I know I can go to the dealer, but I also know I can go downtown and get ass raped by a transvestite.

If I buy a new key fob/blank

  1. Where’s the best place to find them for sale?
  2. Where can I get the key cut? (I have heard that this is the hard part due to security protection)

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

That sucks.

When I needed another key on an old A6, I tried to go the cheap way, and bought a used fob and a blank key on eBay. I called a few dealers and none of them would cut the key.

Eventually, IIRC, I ordered the key from a VW dealership. I had to bring them in my car ownership and they ordered the key. I used the used fob I bought from eBay, but remembered thinking later, after I got quoted a complete key for the VW dealer, I should have just bought the whole key brand new from them.

There was a guy on AZ recently from an Audi dealership that said he could get discounts for people on OEM parts. I would get a quote from him first on a new complete, and see what he can do.

If you want me to search for his info, just let me know.

Buy a blank on eBay. I would think most modern locksmiths should have the capability to hone out the key pattern based off the one you still have in possession. Programming will be the tricky dicky part. Good luck with the assrape by the t-vestite.

PM’d Neil@Owasco to see what kind of price he can do on the complete key with fob. Ill let you know what he says.

try a kijiji search my friend with a b7 a4 just got a new key for his car from a guy in Cambridge that cuts and programs them cheap and I know he found him on kijiji. he got another key to leave in the steering column for a remote starter.

Audi made a copy of my key with out a question. It was $15, I was shocked.

I found the key…was in a weird pocket on a pair of pants.

So I have 2 again, but I want to make a backup. If you have 2, and lose 1 you’re down to 1…and if you lose that you’re screwed until you either find it, or spend a pile of money getting new ones rushed…which will still take ages. While your car sits, somewhere.

So I’m going to get a 3rd made just to be safe. It’s funny this week with just one key I was protecting it like gollum with his ring.

Just heard back from Neil. Ill PM you the details.

Would you please PM me the details as well? I’m a key short.

aOK

Was going to post telling you to check your pockets, but didn’t want to sound like an @$$

FYI - Neil@Owasco is offering a VERY good price on the complete keys. So, if anyone else needs the details, just PM me.

There are a few companies out there that if you send them your vin and a picture of your key they will cut a blank for you without your physical key. I cant remember the exact company that someone told be about, i am pretty sure its the linked one below. They also say to take a picture of you key anyway, so if you do ever lose it they can make one for you.

I’ve done this a few times, since both my audi’s only came with 1 key for some reason.

  1. Buy a compatible key fob, with blank shank, with a blank immobilizer chip. Doesn’t matter if used or new, whatever price you shoot for. I typically just go to ebay.

  2. Take to dealer or a shop that is able to program the immobilizer. In the past, the dealer has only charged me a half hour of labor for this.

  3. Take the key to a locksmith to have the shank cut.

It still ended up about $100 when all said and done.

Special dealer price is about the same in CND with a new key and fob ordered directly from Audi.

Sent you a PM.
