Mangrove to Iphone

And they purposefully didn’t tell us the battery life. Probably less than a day.

But you are missing the point of the watch if you think its a phone replacement vs. complimentary device.

For example, the fitness angle alone will be reason enough to buy this – which is my reason to purchase.

So you’re going to wear a $350 dollar watch to workout in? Why not just get a Nike fuel band. It will link through the app on your phone just the same and it’s half the cost.

And I’m not missing the point of it. I just think it’s stupid. Ill admit I don’t know a ton about it, but has it really gotten to the point that you can’t take your phone out of your pocket to see who calls or texts you?? And if the battery doesn’t even last as long as the phone what is the point? You’re going to screen your calls and texts just the same.

Unless there is some big feature I’m not seeing? I just don’t think the features are worth the price tag.

Yup. Because it tracks heart rate and has a pedometer built in, unlike the fuel band, garmin vivo or any other competitive product (I’ve tried them all) – which requires a chest strap or foot pod, etc.

$350 is not much money for even a watch, let alone something that can become a fitness solution. You are looking at it in the wrong light. I could care less about the text messages or phone call feature.

I am a big cyclist, and therefore have a ton of Garmin stuff in my arsenal. The new phone now has a built in barometer sensor, which allows for accurate elevation readings. Bye bye bike computer. (as I already carry my iPhone in the back pocket for music).

because people are stupid?

Truth is the watch isn’t likely to do well for one simple reason…you have to charge it every fucking day.

We used to have watches that you had to wind up, and that was too tedious for most. Imagine having to manage battery life on your watch? That means take it off every day, and plug it in somewhere, then unplug it, put it on. It’s a bit silly. Just so you can see who is calling you, or know your heartrate?

On the heart rate thing…which is supposed to be a big innovation (lol) if you talk to any cardiologist, he doesn’t want his patients looking at their heart rate. So that leaves who exactly, to caer about their heart rate?

All around, the samsung watch/apple watch etc. are just overkill.

Remember digital watches from the 1980s? Remember heart rate watches from the 90s? Nobody cares. Everyone lusts after old fashioned, movement watches lol…

No it won’t replace my mechanical Omega, but it will help me leave my iPhone in my briefcase so I can wear my skinny jeans.

I was a skeptic at first but after seeing it in person I think its a great toy. Apple will sell millions of these things, simply because its a beautiful watch.

The fitness tracker segment is huge, and this bridges the gap nicely for those already using janky third party apps and plug ins. Having it seamlessly sync and work with Apple quality will help this tech go further.

I have to wind my watch every other day, charge my iPhone every night, so adding another device such as the Apple watch on a wireless charging mat next to my bed is no big deal. Slides in nicely in my already tethered nightly routine.

On the surface the watch isn’t all that impressive, but I’ll look forward to developers input. As alluded to at the very end of the Apple event there could be some cool uses …various remote controls (lights, TV etc) remote camera viewer, opening a hotel door etc. I’m not convinced yet, but I see the potential.

You realize that a heart rate monitor with a chest strap is far more accurate than one that just goes on your wrist…why do you think you see high profile athletes wearing a chest strap? Oh yeah, cause they work better.

I just can’t see how you think this is a fitness solution. I think you’re going to be disappointed at first. And like cory_can said, I am not convinced at all.

Skinny jeans, briefcase, winds watch…are you a hipster? Cause if that’s the case, I know you will just blindly buy anything that Apple releases so I’ll just stop arguing. #hailcorporate

That’s me…skinny jean hipster with his Apple Watch!

There is some sarcasm wrapped in half ass attempts to explain why its cool. Apple Fanboi threads are worthless.

Passed by a Verizon store on my walk to work this morning. I can’t imagine being one of those people that were waiting in line to get the new iPhone. Would be very embarrassing.

It’s really funny.

So you line up for 5 days to get a new phone on day 1. Your other options are

  1. pre-order and pick it up today…no waiting
  2. order and wait 2 weeks to get one

So the people who line up in the fall temps for 5 days to get the phone from 0-14 days before everyone else…waste 5 days of their life to do so.

Is this confusing to anyone else?

Let’s pretend the pre-order option doesn’t exist. If you get one 2 weeks later, will the 2 weeks that the liner-upper had the phone before you really improve the liner-upper’s life enough for it to be worth it? Think about it…they burn 5 days of their life…in order to use a new phone 14 days longer than a few other people.

In an average day, you sleep 8 hrs and are awake 16 hrs. In that 16 hrs you’re probably using your phone for 2 hrs solid if you’re a phone freak. So 14 days of 2 hrs = 28 hrs.

This means these people waste 120 hrs of their life in order to have an extra 28 hrs with this phone.

These people are fucking idiots. That’s the only thing you can conclude from it. The truth is many of htem actually lined up for 10-15 days…that’s just fucking shocking. I can’t wait till they are on their death bed and begging for a couple more days of life. I hope someone reminds them of the lineup days.

The Apple store in Melbourne had a lineup of about 400 people…all Chinese. They literally fly to Australia…line up…then fly back with the phone.

I’ve never understood the “I want to be first to have it” thing

There is definitely no need to line up days before. You could have ordered online, and have it delivered via FedEx to your house today. Free shipping. No waiting… I don’t understand. I went to the Apple store by my house last night to get the battery recall done on my wife’s iPhone 5 before the madness started, and there were already a lot of people waiting outside.

Hahaha!! What is that - like $5k spent just to get an iphone?

I was given an ipad for my EMBA program and I’ve used it twice. My windows laptop can do everything the ipad can and a crap load more. Plus it’s faster and simply overall better. This ipad is my first Apple product, I hate it and it only re-inforced how much I dislike Apple products.

That’s all I wanted to say.

Not the best comparison.

I hated Apple, mainly the iPods when they first came out. I thought it was ridiculous because you could get comparable portable media players for way less…so I did. I also never had a Mac and truthfully made fun of friends with Macs. I eventually asked a good buddy in college to let me use his Mac a few times. At first I hated that everything was different and I sucked at utilizing most of the OSx shortcuts and gestures. I eventually started to like the setup and how simple everything was so I bought a Macbook Pro.

I will never go back to a windows based PC, unfortunately I have to use one at work.

Preordered the phone last Friday from apple.com and it said I’d have it in 3-4 weeks. I honestly don’t see the point of having it day one especially under those circumstances.

I’m the same as you euro. I was all PC until a few years ago. I still hate a lot of aspects about macs, but the fact is they are better quality so they last longer and are a lot less vulnerable to viruses. My last PC was a Sony Vaio laptop and I absolutely hated the thing.

the hate is strong with this one…

sell it?

funniest thing is I probably have owned more apple products, and definitely for longer, than anyone on this forum. Yet people will call me an Apple hater…because I have a Samsung phone. Figure that one out

I think it’s because you were “hating” on apple and apple fanbois.

Therefore you get coined

Apple hater
Apple Fanboi hater

And of course
Apple director of innovation.

I will say that my GF has a Microsoft Surface tablet. And it absolutely kicks the shit out of the iPad in every single category. Yes I know they are designed with different uses in mind, but it truly is a great piece of tech.

The big reason I don’t buy Apple is because, well, Apple is like big brother. And also, because I am a big tech guy and like having the latest and greatest, and don’t care if my laptop doesn’t last 10 years cause I buy a new one every two to three years anyway.

I like customizing my stuff, like my phone for instance, it’s rooted and running an AOSP Rom. I am getting rid of all the bloatware and unwanted shit, and it’s faster than the stock phone. I can hook up my phone to my computer and download different operating systems, themes, apps they don’t have in the play store, adjust the performance of my phone, etc. I enjoy that sort of stuff and like to be different. I just can’t stand the thought of being tied down by Apple and iTunes.

Also, I just don’t like iOS. I’ve tried multiple times to get used to it and it’s just not for me.
