Maybe MPI vs. FSI is one issue?
Perhaps Saki, but we aren’t talking about anything more than injector duty cycle reference, we don’t actually care how much fuel or where the fuel is distributed.
If they can put meth in this VW, then why not our cars? ;D

Step dad busted? ^^^
Hahahhahahhaha
Eyespi, I don’t disagree with anything you’ve said…I would simply say the typical user will make much more gains on w/m by going for more boost rather than trying to take ignition advance to MBT and possibly get into dangerous territory. Since we’re tapped out on boost, our gains for water/meth are limited to 5-7-ish degrees of ignition advance, say 30hp. Whoopee.
I don’t know if anyone makes a water /meth controller that works with FSI injectors, the ones that work with FSI uses MAF. Hey, maybe having a MAF sensor just for w/m may be an idea…
I quoted that same article you did, when we last talked about w/m last year, but I’ve since heard of people ruining their blower coatings by spraying through the blower.
Here’s from Perrin talking about the power loss of w/m without any tuning (one of many, one I agree with):
“When tuning an engine specifically with water/methanol injection, some important things must be remembered. On an existing properly tuned engine, adding water/methanol injection will not gain power. That is not to say that on a car running poorly on low octane fuel won’t gain power. If the engine is properly tuned, and Water/methanol injection is added, expect to loose a little power, but gain much more back after tuning. Common things needed to gain the power back is adding more boost, removing fuel, and adding timing. These things are not something the PWI-1 can do, but can be done by the engine tuner with proper ECU tuning tools, such as an ECU reflash.
If an engine was properly tuned to an air fuel ratio (AFR) of 11.5-1, and the PWI-1 is added expect the AFR to richen up about .5 AFR or more. Leaning the AFR back to this level will net in more horsepower. But leaning the car out beyond this is where water/methanol injection can make more power! It is not uncommon to go 1.0 AFR point leaner and still have a safe tune.
Injecting water and methanol also slows the burn rate of the fuel. In doing so a slight loss in power is seen with no further engine tuning. Adding additional ignition advance into the engine will gain this back. The amount of ignition advance added maybe as little as 1 degree. Since the water/methanol decreases the onset of detonation further power can be gained with adding even more ignition advance. This timing change can have significant effects on power, similar to leaning the car out.
We are not explaining how to tune your car, as this is something best left to you engine tuner. There are many other things to consider while tuning an engine, these are just observations PERRIN performance has made. These observations are all made while the PWI-1 is injecting water/methanol.”
That time wasn’t him, but I do remember the bust when I was in 8th grade and saw two bricks on the hood of a police car. Happy family memories.
