Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3

Currently running Pilot Super Sports. Have 13k miles on them, starting to get loud, ran aggressive camber on them for 10K and the inner tread is down to the indicators.

Starting to look for some new tires. Looking at the new A/S 3 tire for all season duty.

Am I crazy? I have a truck and track car, so the S4 has turned into a daily driver and it makes sense to have a temperature tire for Seattle. I also want a softer sidewall and quieter ride for freeway driving (drive around 600 miles per week)

Not sure what your temperatures are like in Seattle however I live in Toronto, Canada and have a designated summer wheel/tire setup and a winter wheel/tire setup. I would advise you to do the same. You can buy a used set of OEM S4 wheels for like $1000 with tires on them these days. Run those as your cool season tires from November to May and then run a summer setup the rest of the year.

When you tire of the S4, sell the extra set of wheels. You will probably get 600-800 for them at that point with or without shot tires (depending how quickly you tire of the car of course and the market for OEM wheels…although OEM wheels hold value at a certain level very well).

600 miles per week? Wow. That’s over 30k a year! You are a true road warrior.

Saki’s advice is sound. Especially if you go up into the mountains and really enjoy have appropriate traction in both winter and summer. I had two sets for all my cars when I lived in Chicago. Once I got real winter tires, I wondered how I had ever survived without them.

If you just want a “set and forget” set of tires, then go ahead with the A/S 3. With a 45,000 mile warranty, you’ll get 18 months out of them (or less if you are happy with the very aggressive camber).

I run the truck during the winter.

I’d rather not have another set of tires in the garage, it’s already tight with the fj and Hoosiers for the p-car.

These Michelins seem like a good compromise while providing a more comfortable ride.

lol I would just get summers then and drive the truck when it gets below 10 celsius. Simple.

Just get All Season Sumitomo’s.

They are half the price and are just as good for semi-aggressive street driving and some spirited 1/4 mile visits.

What are winter tires? ;D

The new P/S AS 3 seems to have very good reviews for dry/warm weather performance, so it might not be that crazy.

I’m also in Seattle and I run summers in the summer and all seasons in the winter. I’m about to discard my OEM summers and run all seasons (Bridgestone RE970AS, the new Michelins weren’t out yet) on my stock 18" wheels. Planning on getting a set of 19s with PSS for next summer.

The all seasons are perfect for Seattle winters around town. I ski a lot (30+ days a year) but I’ve never been stuck in all seasons on AWD in 12 seasons of skiing here. Never even carried chains. Of course during the occasional slippery day you do have to be more careful than with proper winter tires.

Winter tyres are becoming more prevalent even in the UK. I had Michelin Pilot a/s 2’s there on a fwd a3. It wasn’t too bad in the snow but terrible on ice. So much so that I got stuck in my work car park.

I had Bridgestone lm-60’s on my stock 18’s and sold them because I bought a truck and take that to the pass (Chevy dura max with Toyo open country).

The Michelin pss are good, but are noisy on concrete roads.

Now that I am driving the car on highways a lot, I want more of a touring tire that has a smoother ride – without giving up too much summer traction.

Okay I am sold on the A/S 3’s

I currently have 255 PSS and I am thinking 265’s which give me a taller side wall height – which I am after.

PSS 255/35x19: 24lbs
A/S 3 265/35x19: 29lbs $1274

I have about 30% tread left on the middle channel and less than 5% on the inner band. Time for new tires…

Done

TireRack?

I love how I can place an order, and it is sitting on my doorstep a day later. LOL

Funny. Nobody in the thread recommended them. In fact 100% of us recommended something different lol

Nobody can recommend them because they are brand spanking new model!

I’ll give my review after I mount them.

Just the concept of running all seasons year round. Every single poster recommended against it I believe. Just was funny.

I had someone ask me about all seasons yesterday…I don’t run any, ever, but gave them Marty’s advice of the DWS, and mentioned these tires too.

Mounted yet? What do you think?
