Misfiring on S6 C6

Jb will be better surprised it didn’t stop it all the way.

5 months later and still working on the S6 on and off. I haven’t pulled the JB weld off as the leak is not too excessive, and only when the car runs.

I finally broke down and took the car to Audi to see if they could give me any more ideas on ways to eliminate the misfiring. They did a smoke test (which I had aleady done), charged me $250 and told me the intake and valve cover gasket was leaking, did a throttle body calibration due to the EPC light, and said they couldn’t tell me anything more until those items were fixed. I took it home, not willing to pay them the $3k to do the job.

I first replaced the terminals on the throttle bodies…and this did the trick, no more EPC lights coming on!

(Tyco Micro Timer II Connectors - 6Way 1.5mm, 4mm pitch 2Row))
6Pin Connector: 4H0973713, TE (Tyco) 1813139-1
42121700, 1J093713
Terminal: Tyco 964275-2, alternate 964274-2
Wires: M2SF100BK030, sub BK: BL,RD,YL

I pulled the intake off (for like the 5th time), split it, and resealed the halves together with Reinzosil…there was no valve cover gasket leak…that ones was a mis-diagnosis…or them wanting more $ at the dealership! The smoke test confirmed all the leaks had been sealed. The car ran much better (didn’t buck near as badly at 2200 rpm, but still had a few few misfires at idle). My son and I had run out of time so he drove it to school for the semester.

Now, a few months later, it is starting to have more frequent misfire codes with engine light on. I have since replaced the terminals on the HPFPs because my son thought the pressures were jumping around (remember we already replaced the HPFPs) but not the terminals…probably an expensive mis-diagnosis on our part for those… anyways, the parts we used for the re-termination were:

Plug 4D0971992 (TE Junior Power Timer, 2.8mm pin, 1-row, 5mm pitch, 2PIN)
Terminal:TE 2-927770-1,
Seal: TE 828905-1 (I just reused the old ones by sliding them up the wire once the old terminal was pryed open)
Plug: TE 1-967412-2

Since the HPFP terminal change, I have swapped out a couple VVTs to see if that would help bank 2 (#6.10) misfires but they didn’t.

I am still getting misfires (and CEL on) for P300 code for cylinders 1, 5, 6, 10 …sometimes #2 cylinder.

I continue to read this forum and found the issue about the connectors on the coil packs backing off…and a few of the snaps on ours are broken. Can this housing be replaced or does it just make sense to disassemble it to replace the terminals so they actually make good contact when they slide on? Does anyone know what the TE (assuming this is who makes them) part number for these terminals?

As I look at the many plugs/terminals in the engine bay, some of them are of a good design, but others have taken a terrible set after being re-assembled a few times… like the ones I replaced on the throttle bodies and the HPFPs.

Please let me know if you guys are aware of the part numbers for the Left and Right housing or terminal numbers of the harness for the coil packs, thanks all!

I justxget those from ebay, 12 connectors for 40$. I buy only thes as on my ones clips are broken

Thanks, I did some research and found the correct ones on the te.com website (after using the Audi number and doing some cross-referencing). Here are the part numbers I am using to replace the spark plug wire harness connectors (plugs):

Wire harness connector/Plug: TE 1718562-1 HSG.,4POSN.,RAD.SEAL,AMP MCP2.8K
Terminals: TE 1241396-1 (17 gauge), TE 1241394-2 (20 gauge), TE 1564984-2 (22 gauge)
Seals: TE 963292-1 (2.7-3mm insulation dia), 963293-1 (2-2.7mm insulation dia), TE 963294-1 (1.2-2.1mm insulation dia)
4 wires going to Plug (3) are 2.8mm and (1) is 1.3mm insulation diameter

Just a warning…beware of the low-quality terminals! Use the ones listed above if you can so you don’t run into intermittent connection issues again in the future!

Did you notice an improvement in the misfires after you replaced these?

I didnt change it, i will replace only plastic coupling as locking clip are broken, hopefully terminals and wire insulation are good (im using rs6 headlights and s6 ones are off, couple months ago I was removing projector from one to do some mods and wires insulation on that s6 headlight are cracking on each twist, and last time they was used in 2020).
Im waiting for intake seals as i did smoke test and there was leaks on intake, once I get those seals then i do all this in once.
