Ron, sorry, that’s what I thought. I’ll run some more and then cap the inlet, turn off the meth, do it again, same road, same day within minutes of each other. Thanks for your patience.
Any pics on how they did your meth?
I’ll do some today, that’s another adventure!
Ed, No worries man… Keep us posted and let me know if I can help with the logging in anyway…
justincredible:
I applaud what you did. That is extreme. I was going yo comment but notarmed posted a picture. I’m not too sure the air scrubs the hood in that area. With it being flush there might not be anything to actually grab the air. Please share your findings.
Wow - not something I would do, but I hope you had fun getting it done and like the results.
Agree with PsYkHoTiK – please do logs of this with and without the duct capped. I’m concerned that being so close to the front of the car you might actually see lower pressure at the duct location than from the front of the car, and you won’t get any beit at all.
From Primetime/Drob23’s logs - these engines need about 600 SCFM at redline with Stg2 (hope I did that right - 2750 lbm/sec = 600 SCFM)… or 10 per sec. The stock intake snorkel looks to be about 2"x8" - or .11 sq. ft. so you need about 90 ft/s through this to supply the air. That would be about 60 miles per hour - I think somewhere above that (the flow isn’t straight in for the stock snorkel) the duct might act more as a vent due to ram pressure.
Looking forward to what the logs show.
Did you remove the little “snow screen” in the stock intake to remove that restriction?
I know what CFM is…what’s an SCFM?
These cars in stage 2 running low 12s on pump gas are probably moving about 550-600 CFM (if we assume they make around 450 hp…hard to guess). They’re also amazing as far as the shape of the curve goes, so their performance is not entirely top end hp based. Not a steep slope to peak HP…amazingly full.

Turn off the meth for both runs. So that it’s apples to apples testing (with no other variable thrown into the mix). Or do three tests:
- Meth and duct
 - Duct (meth off)
 - Duct blocked (meth off)

Errr roger, wilco, over and out. I like pretending I’m in a movie!

Standard CFM, i.e. CFM at standard pressure/temperature. My 600 CFM number assumed standard conditions - if you were at a higher DA, CFM would be higher.
I was just trying to get a feel for how much air is going into the engine. 600 CFM is a volume of 2’x2’x2.5’ every second. Kind of interesting that if if the throttle body is 3" (?) the air has to be moving over 200 ft/s - or nearly 140 mph to get that flow rate.

Saki, SCFM is the actual measurement you use in all the quick cfm-hp calculations. Its effectively a mass flow rate and therefore useful in calculations. Consider DA and the effect on power, similar effect with CFM to SCFM (eg 1000 cfm of warm air may only be equivalent to 980 scfm)
nice one, thanks guys. Very cool.

Also raise the charger from the engine with a Phenolic spacer. They are making power in the region of 365 flywheel kw 660 nm with restrictors in the inlet to keep the race fair. They havent popped any engines yet
What benefit does raising the charger off the engine with a spacer provide?
Wow has that AZ thread turned to shit.
Skywagon - I still don’t get it, what are you trying to get from these threads, here and Audizine? Are you looking for advice, or opinions or wtf? Seriously…picking a fight with every guy on the internet isn’t gonna solve your problems.
Just go run your car and let the times speak for themselves. Like we’ve said over and over and over and over

Not too bad. There’s a little proof of concept.

Those guys are even more brutal
It’ll reach AZ classic status in no time, I’m sure. Especially when the other sub forums ‘catch wind’ of it (lol pun intended).
I think this has now been cemented.

I’ll live!
Most of the az thread is classic schoolyard gang-of-cowards shit. Everyone sees that someone is down on the ground and bleeding, so they rush in to have a kick to join in the fracas, then run away like cowards. None of them would stand in front of you 1 on 1.
AR is the opposite. Everyone will stand in front of you 1 on 1, and when we see someone is down, we wait for them to stand up and dust off. Then we hammer them again 1 on 1 lol. But at least you know it’s legit.
