Here’s more of my thoughts behind this. Are we to believe a DSG file that extends shifting performance wouldn’t work on a stock tune? It’s not likely that the ecu will care how fast the shifts are. The only hang up I see would be if you had extended the shift points in the DSG tune. If APR extended the max rpm in the ecu what’s preventing any DSG tune from working?
" Like our 2010-2012 S4 3.0T DSG software, GIAC DL501 performance DSG software for 2013+ models is currently available for customers that have a GIAC engine calibration, updated with the proper modifications for GIAC’s DSG performance software. The GIAC engine and transmission calibrations for the B8.5 have been designed to work in concert to provide the ideal 3.0TFSI driving experience. GIAC is proud to offer the most complete and potent performance option for the B8.5 3.0T platform. MSRP is $700.00 and is available at all GIAC dealers. The software is flashed in minutes through the OBD2 port. "
Revo’s stage two pulley is identical to APR’s, same specs. That’s one reason I’ve leaned towards Revo. GIAC’s pulley is different but how much? In other words I guess I’ll have to see what Giac says about leaving APR’s on the car and using their ECU and DSG tunes. The cost of replacing APR’s pulley would be considerable?
anyway, the pulley is a pretty simple physical way to spin the blower faster. If GIAC has a marginally smaller pulley, I can’t see it being an issue using an APR pulley with a GIAC tune. Maybe someone can correct me. The other way may be an issue, but again I don’t know how much if at all.
Saki, the entire front end has to come off, radiator as well, to change out a pulley. At least that’s what they did when they pulled the stock one off and installed APR’s The new pulley has to be heated in an oven for some time and then slipped on and shrinks to secure the install. I’ve also been told a stock one will never go back on as well.
Someone is jerking you around. The bumper probably needs removed and the support goes into the service postition.
That isn’t the WHOLE front end.
Everyone has an oven to heat the pulley up.
Who cares about the stock one, you want to be stage 2.
Labor for my pulley install was ~ $200. Maybe 90 minutes total. Given the thousands you’ve already spent, I wouldn’t characterize the expense as considerable.
Also, why would a stock pulley not fit? I’ve never heard that before.
Will make little difference to switch pulleys from APR to GIAC if you were going to switch tunes IMO. Waste of money to switch since you’d be paying the ~500 or whatever these companies just for the pulley alone. Although they might require buying one to get the stg 2 file…to prevent people from buying cheap SRM pulleys and getting stg 2 for stg 1 money. Some tuners have powerplay or whatever they call it when you switch stg 2 tunes.
I think they would give skywagon an exception based on the “extent” he’s willing to go lol
