That makes much more sense.
Komseh, do I run this on Engine 1 and Engine 2?
I may start a new thread on this as not to derail this specific injector thread.
It will help get a more complete picture if you do
Komseh, can you copy over your ‘how to check fuel trims’ post from AZ to here?
also does someone have a DIY for vagcom checking hp and lp fuel pumps?
would be cool to have a thread for all fuelling related vagcom testing
Sure, actually I’ll see if I can add it to the OP.
Edit: no dice, editing time has passed!
And yeah a fuel system vagcom check thread would be good to have. We can see a lot more data about the fuel system on the RS4 than in the S4. I think there are some adaptation tests you can run on the fuel pumps. Then you can look at fuel pressures and of course the fuel trims provide good data as well.
It would be good to have one of the more technical members help out. While the fuel pressure numbers and fuel pump checks are easy to run, the data has to be interpreted properly.
just add it below here in a new post
A quick writeup I did on checking RS4 fuel trims in VAGCOM:
Thanks for adding this over here. It will be helpful. Karma + for you
Keep up the good work Komseh!
Re: Forgestars…
Just kidding, I bought a second set of Volks for the street setup!
ZE40 - 19x9.5 +25 5x112 in matte gunmetal blue. Volk claims these are their strongest wheels to date.
Like the color.
I guess that you didn’t want to jinx it and post this in your “how many parts can I break thread” right? LOL
Haha I’ve been out of it with some weird sickness and I posted to the wrong thread. Good point though about not jinxing the wheels
I hope I can add to this thread with some info. Yesterday my car started missing badly, and dumping smoke. The smell of fuel was obvious. I thought at first it was a coil going bad, so I limped 2 blocks to make it to my work. I got it inside, tore it down to look for a wet spark plug… here is where it gets interesting. When i pullef the plug on the second cylinder back on passenger side I could hear a hissing sound. Almost like fuel boiling as it hit something hot. I looked closer and saw fuel squirting into the cylinder. Once the residual pressure bled off it stopped. Am I the only one to have had one fail by sticking wide open? I’m stuck until Monday to see if the dealer has one on the shelf. So far I’m only finding these fit the rs4 and r8 according to my searches. The possibility of them having one on the shelf don’t look good. Wish me luck. I’ll report back once it’s fixed.
WOW crazy story. There is a guy in the S6 section that had a blown motor or damaged motor due to a wide open injector. That kinda sucks to have a failure. It might make sense to pull the injectors out and see how all 8 flow.
Google “Mr. Injector”. I bought an injector rebuild kit from him for about $36.00. I think he is in WY or someplace close.
I have seen a bunch of injectors fail where they stick open. Some were worse than others. There was an early 3.2 Q5 where it would randomly have trouble warm starting the first time while out running errands because the injectors would stick open hot only enough to bleed fuel pressure down a little bit to be annoying. Then a few B8 2.0T A4s had injectors stick wide open or close to it and they would smoke like crazy. A few sent so much raw fuel into the exhaust that the catalytic converter failed.
I drove it very carefully less than 1 mile. I thought it was a coil, but the smoke and smell told me different. The only code I got was fuel pressure too low or something of that nature. My fingers are crossed a new injector gets me back on the road for now. I definitely plan to send them out and have all 8 cleaned. On a side note, less than 10k and all my carbon buildup is back. I pulled the pcv and I can blow through both ends, both directions. I thought there was a check valve somewhere in that setup? I’ll be replacing that as well.
This thread is more and more imporntant as we start seeing people following the lead taken here. Lots of RS4 injectors failing or showing down on flow rate
Yeah Justin I was thinking about this the other day. The thread here and on AZ have already helped a few people resolve issues on their cars. That gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside.
