Motor pictures 3.0

It looks like there are two vac actuators on the front of the 3.0 intake manifold.

Here is a better look

and this last one should do it.

Very useful, looks much more like the older style V6’s than the new 3.2 and 3.0 which are essentially chopped down 4.2s.

A lot of pulleys up front to be lightened

Count are these pics good enough? I can take some but I won’t have time to until next week

These will help.

What I would love to get are measurements on the throttle body size and MAF hose. If you can measure your MAF and we can start looking there for more power.

Ive noticed that just putting a throttle body on some of the older V8’s worked well. Even in the 6cyl fords they liked the larger throttle body. That might be something to look into.

My engine is half in pieces, with the a cylinder head off and Intake manifold off. What pictures would we like to see

Intake manifold pics for sure! Also would love to see the exhaust system as I’m going to be taking off the precats, gotta figure out how to get at them.

The exhaust manifold would be interesting to see inside, I think we already have a good idea the design based on previous versions, but that’s always a good part to start with. Beyond that, get pictures of everything and just post it up, the more you post up, the more opportunity it gives others to see potential areas to develop as well as share real knowledge.

Go all Facebook camwhore on that engine!

Lout thanks for posting. If you can measure the throttle body. Remove the throttle body from the intake manifold and then take a picture of the opening to the intake manifold. Were looking to see if there is a serious restriction on the inlet like this.

Other then that what ever else you see as relevant make sure to capture that.

PLEASE feel free to load the pictures here so we can have them for reference. I know the owner of the site wants us to all load the site with as much video and picture content as we wish. So we can guarantee that the information is always here and available

Not a problem, I will get all paparazzi on that intake manifold…I will get them posted up tomorrow

Post up everything you got, rotating assembly, sleeves, intake and exhaust ports.

wow that could be a goldmine of information. Measure all the ports, valves, everywhere where the air has to move through. Surface finishes are great as well since it’ll give an idea of the benefits from porting

I took some pictures of the stock cat while I was swapping wheels and fixing some brake squeal.

I could only get one to upload here to AR, so I just hosted the others else where.

no 2nd set of cats here after the first set:

The one set of cats is basically right behind the axle shield. Taking off the shield will give you perfect view of it

and apparently I have a pretty nice oil leak right now. Looks like I need to get to replacing the VCG soon as I can

Here’s a wack of pics from an old thread on AZ

Thanks for digging that up, quite interesting to see.

I will try and get some detailed pictures of the cylinder head soon, unfortunately the valves are quite bad

When you break it down. The 3.0 is very close to the 2.7T motors. There are the obvious differences in the heads with the adjustable cams.

I recalled reading that same statement awhile ago… interesting to know, maybe we can end up adapting some of the existing parts for those engines.

I read a few people talking about the S4 B5 turbo swap. I think thats going to be a big issue due to oil and coolant lines. That is going to be one of the largest issues. Then you have to worry about the inlet. We would have to look into seeing if the intake manifold can be turned around to be able to get the charge pipes to work like the S4

Interesting idea, but I think that is a lot farther on down the road, for now we should focus on the basic bolt ons and getting the most power out of it before we have to go to forced induction. If there is even an interest/market for it.

I agree. I have a S5 I just got a JHM tune and came from the GIAC tune. The GIAC tune was hyped up on the dyno and for what its worth. The dyno sheet or dyno must have been broken for GIAC. I saw no difference in the GIAC chip. Then the JHM file. WOW crazy difference. In a na car your always wanting more but this puts the car into a much higher level of power then it came stock.

I think its best to just keep the car na and push that limit before looking into the turbo side of it. I know a few people like the turbo Idea but I think its going to come with lots of issues.
