Yes
EDIT: Unplug them and then turn the ignition on but don’t start the engine. Then check for fault codes. They may be coded out to not do anything but you may get open circuit fault codes if they are totally removed.

Update.
Got the driver side aux radiator out. And started undoing a bunch of the wiring. Also removed the air box and pump ( recirculator pump? )

Below is something that makes me nervous. It’s a bunch or wiring that goes into a fuse that’s black taped. Lol. Not really sure where the wires go.

Below is another example of something dumb. This was just laying there, not attached to anything.

I only get an hour or so on the weekends so not much to update. I expect the real help I’m going to need is when putting the back together; the wiring. There are so many wires just sitting there, not plugged in. I can see my self needing to figure out what all the wires do in order to sort that rats nest out.

Didn’t upload for some reason.
Whoooa what a blast from the past! This thing has been through quite a few owners since ngng. I’m glad it finally ended up in someone’s hands who’s gonna make it right and fix all the wrongs. Speaking of that what a hack of job someone did there. Good luck with that, you’re going to need it lol good thing is there’re a bunch of very technically inclined members here, so you’ll get plenty of help. I guess after you sort out all of the technical gremlins, you’ll move onto bodywork?
Yeah that’s the plan. I think this part of the project will take a while but once completed I’ll move onto the body. I’m already replacing the front bumper and the headlights.
I haven’t posted the pics yet, but the front bumper is hacked to bits. They hacked it to install the S6 LEDs as well as bonded over the headlight washer caps for some reason. ( read: did a terrible job ). So I’ll be fixing that for sure.
The interior wiring is complete. I did that first for fear of starting a fire…seriously. The S6 LEDs were wired with 3 relays all of which were installed after the switch!! So essentially the switch was carrying the load instead of the relays. There were a few other things but all that is good now.
Since it had the rattle on cold start I figured I would tackle this next. So far it’s not too bad. But the wiring in the engine bay makes baby Jesus cry.
I do have a small fear for that once it starts going back together, but I’ll cross that bridge when I get there.
Jimmy gave a good idea. I would try that. I dont see them being coded out if they are still plugged in. But from what we have seen with the rest of the car I wouldnt be suprised.
The taking photos along the way is the best idea. Mark and use painters tape to put on the harness to help give you an idea on where everything goes.
There is a pump on the passenger side for the rad over there. Its like an after run pump. The wires with the fuse I would guess would run to the water pump for the cooling on the supercharger.
I got a good couple of hours in last night.

Got most of the wire harness off and some other hoses removed. I’m basically to the point where I just need to drop the exhaust and shifter box. From there I should be able to hook up the boom and get her yanked out.
A few things thing s to show of course. The car is a never ending surprise of WTFs. Lol. By the way, laughing at this point is my only option. I’m so deep into it that there is no turning back now. Even though last night made me shake my head and wish I knew about some of this before I bought it. By either way, here we are.

So here is me taking out the ECU. As you can see the ghetto ness just doesn’t stop.

Above is another WTDd. This hose was sitting in the engine bay next to the air box. As you can see its capped off. It runs into the wheel well where it’s connected to a T. One side goes to the pump and the other side to the reservoir. It’s the line for the supercharger cooling. I just completely don’t understand why the capped off hose even exist?
I do have a couple questions that I need help with.
I’ve been following Joeys DIY for the engine removal. I’ve had to deviate a few times due to the obvious differences but for the most part it’s helped a bunch.
First question though. In the DIY he states to pull the positive battery cable through the firewall and shows a picture of a hole to pull it through.
Mine looks different as there is a rubber grommet and the terminal cable won’t fit through it.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160412/7ff979c60b3fcc49aadcc150bfff7210.jpg
Now I’m guessing I’m going to need to cut the end off the terminal in order to feed it through. But prior to doing so I wanted to ask here first for clarification, in case I was missing something easy.
Second question.

This hose. What is it? And do I need to remove it to take the motor out? I didn’t find any reference of it in Joey’s DIY and just wanted to be sure. It was towards the end of my night last night so I didn’t actually follow it. I just took a pic of and figured I ask here.
Lastly. Aside from this picture looking like a big rats nest. Is there anything else that you can see that needs to be removed? I think I have it all but there’s so much randomness over there, I Wanted a pother pair of eyes on it.
Oops forgot the picture. Lol

If the circled one is what you are asking, its power steering and does need removed. It connects the pump on the drivers side right next to the lower oil pan.
^^yeah, PS hose, does the S4 have a compression fitting in the middle like the RS4? Meaning just disconnect it and you’re good.
I’m just going off memory, but I drove the car shortly before ngng sold it. It’s changed hands a few times now, and it looks like it’s been mutilated quite a bit since then. I knew that the electrical/wiring wasn’t fully sorted, but it looks like things got mucked up even further over the last couple years.
On the driver’s side, the hose that’s capped either does, or used to, go to a reservoir tucked behind the rear of the fender that housed coolant for the aftercooler.
For the battery terminal…did you try pushing the grommet through?
You’re definitely doing the right thing by breaking it down and building it back up. The building blocks are all there, you just have the lovely task of sorting it all out. Are the tail lights fully functional? I know that was a ‘thing’ during the conversion IIRC. The headers used to be wrapped as well, looks like that’s been removed too.
Yeah that hose still goes to the reservoir but it has that T in it for some reason like there used to be another reservoir or something in the engine bay. Strange.
Tail lights are fully functional, no issues there.
The headers being wrapped would have really helped here,
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160412/4a219141b91253f4d099cab7e4cbb75a.jpg
That’s the wideband controller…melted and fused together. It was just flapping there no tied or mounted to anything. The gauge still worked believe or not. But it has to be replaced now for sure since I had to beat it up pretty good to get it out of there since it was melted together and wouldn’t disconnect from itself.
I do plan on wrapping the headers before putting the engine back in and of course rerouting/fixing the wiring.
Yes the power steering pressure hose has a compression fitting so it can just be disconnected and moved out of the way. Should be a 17 mm for the line and a 19 mm for the nut.
Yep, push the postive battery terminal with the grommet through the hole.
I agree that the headers should be wrapped.
The driver’s side of the engine compartment by the power steering fluid tank looks a lot cleaner!
Update. Got the shifter box out undone and ready to remove.
Not surprising I found more inept stuff here. Nothing big, but face palm worthy for sure. The nuts were missing that holds this piece on there and the foam pads were missing that sit above that.

Either way, that’s all done and missing nuts and foam pads are noted.
Looking back I asked about the battery terminal… Well I gotta chalk that one up to a brain fart and that it was late. It took all of 2 seconds to remove today once I applied…effort. Hopefully I didn’t use up all my stupid questions for you guys in one shot.
Either way, all that’s left now is phase 7 of Joeys DIY. I should be tackling that this weekend.
Keep the updates coming!
No stupid quiestios keep them comming. This sucks to see…you almost need to pull everything apart to see what else is hiding in there. I would guess you will find some other strange things when you pull the motor
Not much to update. Had a family emergency that backed me up in life a little bit.
So tonight i just put together the boom. Lol

Quick question though.
It appear my engine hook eyelets are gone.
Do they go here?

And here

I suspect not but will ask anyway. Anybody have any idea as to how hookup the boom without the eyelets?
