Plan D always works ;D ;D ;D
You referring to the pinch bolt?
Mine was so bad I said screw it and bought a brand new knuckle off eBay for $100… totally work the money. Came with hub/bearing/sensor and etc. Dropped right in. Best money I ever spent considering I fought with my bolt for hours and hours until it was galled so bad it was essentially one with the knuckle.
My plan D usually includes a big hammer and lots of swear words. It works but not like you would think. LOL
Need quick help if possible.
What do these marks mean on the mechanical adjuster?

Does that mark indicate it needs to be installed in a specific way relative to the block somehow?
Update…finally.
Got the mechanical adjusters swapped out with the JHM ones.

I also got all the timing stuff replaced. At this point, I’m ready to throw the timing covers back on.

Hopefully over this next week I can start putting back on all the other stuff as well, like the headers, alternator and things like that.
I only have one header wrapped at this point, since it took a whole lot more wrap than I thought it would. It’s my first time wrapping a header so I had no idea it was such a PITA.
It’s coming along now and should be able to move at a faster clip now that I got the one bolt fixed on the guide and the other bolt removed on the adjuster. ( both were stripped ).
Not sure where the rest of my post went but I had a bunch more type out above??
Either way,

It’s coming along now.
Looks like you figured out the markings. It looks like its all coming together nicely.
The motor looks great!
Yeah wrapping headers is time consuming as hell.
I sent you a PM.
Yeah. It was my first time wrapping headers and just wow! Lol. It looks good though and I’m hoping it will help enough to make it worth the hassle.
Great work! I was lucky enough to not have to wrap my headers. Heard it was a pain though.
Another update. Finished up wrapping both headers.
Don’t judge me too much on my zip-ties. It was such a PITA that I just don’t want all to come unraveled…literally. Lol. Form over fashion they say. Plus it was my first time wrapping headers.

Also finished putting the timing covers on.

I got my valve covers back yesterday as well, I just placed them on there to give me an idea of what it will look like. It’s all coming together now and am hoping it comes along quicker. I’m ready to start driving it again.
Looks great!
Remember to go slow and double check everything because you don’t want to have to tear it all apart again later on. I can tell you from experience that if you rush it then you will be be majorly pissed because the engine has to be opened up again.
What temps is the wrap rated to?
I tried to take my time on the cover. It was a major PITA. I’m definitely saying a small prayer that it doesn’t leak. I put a bunch of Goop on it and then double checked it prior to putting it on and it looked good, so hears hoping.
The wrap is 2000 degree wrap. I’m thinking cause it’s supercharged it probably doesn’t get that, so I’m thinking it should help. The headers were already ceramic coated so that should also help.
I have the back of the motor left. Sucks 'cause I have to put back on all the combi stuff and can’t just block it off. I called VF and they said they don’t have it in the program for the combi valves to be removed. :(.
I wonder if JHM can write a tune for it… ;D
LOL, I did ask them…they said no.
Tymeks, you should contact Jeff Atwood over at United Motorsports if JHM wont tune it. That guy is a pretty damn good tuner to my knowledge. All my R buddies rock his tune and my buddy with the TTRS IROZ motorsport kit, they use him as well.
My father was having issues with APR stage 3 dsg tune and the clutches slipping. He switched to Jeffs DSG tune and just like that it went away.
Given all you have been though and how these motors are not the strongest. It might just be best to rock the GIAC tune anyways. I know JHM has to pull back power and shut the throttle on there kit in the upper rpm range. GIAC tuned the cars for VF. You might be able to ask them if they can help. GIAC isnt a well known name in the NA 4.2 game but they should have a solid tune on the car.
Yeah. Honestly the drive ability on the car is great. I never felt any type of mid range mid throttle stumble or anything like that.
I just wish I didn’t have to reinstall all the SAI stuff. My air pump broke on the way out. Call it a learning experience on my part, lol. So now that has to be replaced and those are $500.00 plus all the vacuum lines that are now 13 years old. It’s just asking for something to go wrong. But since the ECU is locked, there isn’t a way to just go in there and update that part of the tune to write it out. So I would have to get an all new tune from scratch. And like you said, the tune itself is already solid, so it would be a tough ask to have someone remote tune a kit they didn’t build.
Either way, as I’ve said a lot already… It is…What it is.
