My build log

Thank you everyone for the replies. I had no idea people were actually reading this thread anymore.

Soon, I’ll be able to start posting positive posts… But we’re not there yet. LOL

Justin, that post you linked… Man, every time you guys post those links it makes Baby Jesus cry I swear. Lol. At this point, it is what it is and I’m super married to this car for better…and for worse.

Having said that, I swear this car drove perfect. No stumble, good power through the band, granted; clearly on the verge of falling apart as we can see.

I’ve never been in a JHM SC’ed car but I have owned 2 other B6 and B7 S4’s and this car is definitely faster than those previous vehicles. But I’m sure it’s still slower than the JHM SC’ed car. But either way, here I am.

That list you posted is definitely incorrect regarding the mods on the car. Well, I’m sure it was correct at that time but it was definitely De-Modded upon each sale to a new owner as they try to recoup there money.

Doesn’t have a Snub Mount - ( does now that I bought one to install )
Doesn’t have a Rear Diff mount - ( does now that I bought one to install )
JMH Ram Air - No it doesn’t
JHM intake spaces - Not anymore
JHM lightweight pulley - No
Carbon Fiber exterior anything - uhhh, NO
Front and Rear bumper reflector delete - I don’t think I ever showed a picture of this mod but WOW, this should not be counted as a mod because they went backwards due to the amount of Bondo used.
Custom molded 10 inch Sub Box - Sadly we all know the answer here - NO. ( it does now that I reinstalled a new custom molded box )

So, if everyone could do me a favor and not send me down that memory lane any more, that would be great, HAHAHA. I’m joking as I have accepted that this car just is what it is. So any more posts are ok.

Good to know. I wasn’t to worried when it snapped off, I was just more crapped out because I was in a groove at that point moving right along and then that happened. Then a few minutes later the cam adjuster bolt gave me issues.

I only get a couple hours at a time to work on the car while the kids are sleeping and stuff so all my momentum was lost at that point. I’m hoping this weekend I’ll be able to get both those bolts out.

Ty I just wanted to make it clear I was not trying to bash the project or make a stab or try to compaire your kit to the JHM kit.

I just saw the post and thought oh TY might think this is cool to see what the car was selling for and what was said to be on the car vs what the car might have on it now

I also thought you would have a good laugh when you read the METICULOUSLY MAINTAINED…

I think you have a great attitude and its so refreshing to see someonen excited about there car and deticated to share.

I mentioned this in another thread. Its not about your parts it about your attitude. Sure one kit or another might be faster but your just here as an enthusist not a rolling advertisement were you are subject to people asking you to prove your words.

If you finish all this and never once do anything but drive the car and report back no body will even bat an eyelash. You dontneed to go track the car or prove its fast. You saying all this and all you have said in the past you have built something more impornent then some of the others in the past. You have built peoples trust and respect. Your just here to share and have all of us go on this trip with you. Your not here to try and tell eveyone how smart you are or here to justify your car or the parts on it. For that and all you have done. I give you a membership bump karma vote. Thats not the first one from me and Im sure it wont be the last. Great attitude and great project.

Justin - For sure I never took anything you said the wrong way. It’s all good. Any videos people post at this point is nothing new. I’m totally all for people posting more videos and stuff as it really isn’t a big deal and honestly I enjoy seeing the history.

I did see that post and laugh at the meticulously maintained part. LOL. Thankfully I didn’t pay that price for this Not meticulously maintained car. LOL, granted I probably still over paid. :frowning:

I’m not rich by any stretch and this project is definitely pushing the limits financially, but for me, it’s a ton of fun. I’m learning a lot as I go and having a good time doing it. I’m also no master mechanic or anything ( just have a passion for cars is all ) so everyone’s posts here have been super helpful and I truly appreciate it.

I’m super easy and am hard to get offended. So if anyone has any different videos or other posts to link to this history laden vehicle, I’m in. Doesn’t mean Baby Jesus won’t shed a tear though. LOL

More to come for sure as I have ton of stuff left I’d like to do but first things first; Putting this car back together right.

Seriously…Thank You

This is a great thread! thanks for taking the time to document and share. You have quite the situation on your hands, but you appear to be extremely capable. Many others would have just said fuck it and sold the car again.

Small update.

I spent a couple hours cleaning the timing covers and block. Definitely took me longer than I thought it would to get it all cleaned up.

I just bit the bullet and ordered the electric cam adjusters. The bank is officially broke. Lol Seriously…

So all that should be coming by Tuesday. The goal is to get the covers back on next weekend and begin the process of actually putting this car back together.

During this time, I sent the injectors off to have cleaned and tested.

Here are the results.

They ended up putting new o-rings and basically rebuilding the injectors for me so that was a big plus, as I had planned on doing that after I got them back anyways. I used RC injector. They were super fast with their turn around time. I would definitely recommend them.

The headers have been ceramic coated. Does anybody know if I can still wrap them? I’m not sure with the coating if the internal heat would become an issue. Anybody know?

That’s it for now. Thanks

Great work on the injectors. Our style of injecters are much better off then the FSI injectors but you were still off. there is a good upside to getting them cleaned.

The JHM headers are pretty strong so I dont see too big of an issue wrapping them. I remember a few people doing that back in the day. The ceramic coating is usually pretty good on its own. But if you remember it being a bit hot the wrapping can only help bring that down.

Did you get the electrical cam adjuster assemblies, units, or both? The JHM kit only comes with the assemblies. Just figured I’d throw this out there since I did the full kit and thought everything was good to go. A year and a half later now and my electrical cam units just failed on me and need to be replaced. Wasn’t cheap unfortunately.

I got the complete units. So new electric adjusters along with the new mechanical adjusters. No, Not cheap by any means. :frowning:

So there are 3 things: electrical cam adjuster units, electrical cam adjuster assemblies, and mechanical adjusters. I was pretty confused when I was being told all of this, just want to make sure you’re not too. You’re doing all the work yourself though so you’re probably not. Just wanna do what I can to help.

It depends on what the ceramic coating is rated to and how hot that you are going to get the exhaust to. I got my V2 headers ceramic coated for 2K degrees by Jet-Hot, then wrapped them in 2K degrees header wrap, and then put 1800 degree 1/2" thick insulation over that. Needless to say I went for a little bit of overkill.

Most NA and SCed cars are not going to get the exhaust temps over 1300 degrees anyways. A turbocharged car might get closer to 2K degrees but only like a foot to two feet off the back of the turbo.

I think that the combo of ceramic coatings and header wrap are worth it to keep the heat out of the rest of the engine compartment. These V8s run hot as hell with very little air flow so the less heat in the engine compartment then the better off that you will be.

Update. Officially started taking things out of boxes and putting them together And putting them back on the car. Lol

Last night I got the rear brakes reassembled.

And the rear shocks assembled.

I got the rear shocks bolted back back in. There were a couple of missing bolts missing that I wanted to replace prior to putting the liners back in and brakes back on. Ace Hardware trip today to get those.

Reassembled the front shocks as well.

We spent a bunch of time on that little bolt that broke off. It turned out to be a much bigger pain in the ass than I anticipated. Still not done on it yet, so I’ll refrain from posting pics of that until it’s done. Lol

Keep the updates coming, being able to walk away when you get too frustrated/angry is the only way to work on these types of things.

Good work so far!

^or just take a big ass breath and remember how much fun it is when you’re behind a wheel of it!

Update.
I got the subframe back on. What a pain in the ass that was. I gave up on two separate occasions, just had to walk away and come another day. The bushings are obviously solid now and when you need that 1/8th of an inch it just doesn’t want to give it to you. Lol. Either way, that’s in now.

As a result of that finally going in, I was able to get my front suspension reinstalled. Super excited as things are starting to finally go back in.

I still need to figure out a better solution for the passenger side shock reservoir, but for now, it’s in. :).

At this point, the infamous bolt is still kicking my ass unfortunately. :(. I’m working in plan C. But at this point I’m just getting as much of the other stuff done as possible just to not think about the bolt and the ensuing frustration that goes with up.

That’s the best part, assembling everything back together. Well now that I think about it, it’s probably next to the best part, as nothing will beat that feeling during your first start up and drive after all this. I love installing new hardware or even reinstalling old, just because you spend all that time prepping it and then reassembling all the clean parts hehe

Usually plan C works. LOL keep up the good work
