my last year and a half

OK just to start this off my punctuation blows!!! with that being said.

OK so a year and a half ago i bought my dolphin grey b6 s4 with plans to chip it put wheels and suspension on well i drove it for about 4 months and something started to make noise. i got a recommendation to go to a shop local to me. (i will message you there name just don’t feel comfortable about mentioning the shop as my buddy works there) OK so the car gets there and after long talks with jhm we made the assumption the timimg chains were bad. so i ordered the guides, tune, intake manifold, trex turk dps, lwfw and stg4 clutch, lwcp, jhm shifter trio, and miscellaneous parts. so after all this the car got put back toghter and it still made noises so the tore it apart to find that the exhaust cam i believe took a shit. so after sourcing another head i gave it to the shop to solve my problem. so cam and guides were bad afterall.

i get the car back running great sounds awesome and the power difference was amazing so. i break everything in for 1000 miles then i start to push the car i went to a dyno day and made 299awhp 298awtqnot bad but was hoping for 300hp range. i received a message from count vohn about the dyno and such and i felt better. so i went to the drag strip and posted a 12.83 @106 or something its in the drag times section of this forum. and euroswager was there tyring to get in the 12’s with no luck but moving on. i went to the track like the next weekend and on my first run broke an axle oh well got it fixed no harm no foul. about two weeks later i went to go instruct at my local autocross and i started to hear a tick again and about cried no lie at that point i had around 2000 miles since the car was at the shop. so at this point my wife’s about to stab me and I’m stressed at the amount of thrown at this car since i bought it.

so i take videos and hour plus talks with count vohn and other in the community on what this could be and nobody knew. so the car goes back to the shop and told them to figure out the issue. so i get a call saying the timing chain stretched on the passenger side of the motor (same side as the cam issue) and that its going to cost me 500 bucks for parts and then whatever labor would be. if this was the only issue on that side them OK sweet here’s the cash done. but they wouldn’t tell me that they were at fault with the chain and that it was my fault for missing a oil change at 700 miles that i never heard but water under the bridge. car sits for months while we figure out what where going to do cause felt it there fault and they think its mine.

so i say hey fuck it give me the car back in pieces. once the car is back i pull the oil pan to check for anything and what do you know metal!!! omfg!!! really. so i call the shop and ask if they pulled the pan to check it there was any debris in there and they said NO!!!. wait what. OK whatever can you help with half of the parts then since the forgetfulness of checking the oil pan NO!! OK nevermind ill fix it myself so I’ve gone through the motor and no damage just filings left over from the cam issue. chains will be ordered tomorrow and should be running soon and then for sale… 18000 obo

so I’ve been MIA due to life i got out of the military and just everything moved quickly. but count vohn asked me to write this story i guess you can call it. but everyone needs to be carefull out there shops lie there ass off. but thanks for reading and again i apologize about punctuation and grammar

Sounds like one hell of an ordeal. You said a friend of yours works at the shop?? Kinda shitty that there wasn’t more of a helping attitude there…

he tried everything to help but the owner wasnt having it oh well

What a nightmare! I would call out the shop and report them to the BBB.

Yeah, tough situation. Puts your friend in a tight spot as well. Sorry to hear about all the troubles. Makes all mine pale in comparison. Good luck with the sale. What are you going to replace it with?

My ruckus lol

These are the stories that make me want to unload my car after replacing most if my timing gear. I’m just always afraid that I missed a part or some other small decision that I made could come back to bite me in the ass.

Good luck with your sale. Much love for a fellow DG S4.

Thanks for throwing in there that I couldn’t break into the 12s that day…jerk!

Good luck though man, let me know when you need my timing tools or a hand.

pwnt!^^

Oil change at 700 miles? That’s bullshit

Exactly and sorry man I’ll call you today

Excuse my ignorance, why is a 700 mile initial oil change bs?

When I was breaking in an engine on a different car I changed the oil after 500 hours, so I’m just curious what the accepted/recommended procedure is with an Audi.

It wasn’t a rebuild and it was a used head so what break in would really be needed?

The oil change thing is pure BS and a shops excuse to not fix their mistakes. I personally wouldn’t have let them have the car ever again.

I actually picked up my motor from the shop after they tore down my motor and one of my heads and asked if my car was tuned. I said yes it is JHM tuned and they immediately had something to say about JHM and the tune was a possible cause of my bad valve stem seals! I was really annoyed by the comments and told them not to touch another thing. I picked the bitch up and rebuilt the heads myself.

If it was a completely brand new motor? Sure. But even that is debatable. There doesn’t seem to be a set-in-stone way to break in an Alusil motor.

We need our resident motor break-in expert BenSTi in here.

Haha…I spit some of my drink out…it’s funny to see different engine builders recommend different ways to break in a motor. I’ve seen some guys recommending driving it like you stole the damn thing.

Yea, I have heard arguments that vary drastically on that subject.

Other than the heads, wasn’t an exhaust cam also replaced?

My thought would be that any time you put new parts inside an engine, you want to do an initial oil change at a very short interval to drain out the oil which may be contaminated from the break-in and wearing of the parts.

Correct the cam was replaced along with two rocker arms the heads the are the same. And if it was a new parts or used breakin oil ok but they only used Mobil 1 oil cant think of the weight off hand but yeah it was fine and the oil was still clear gwen I pulled the pan so I really don’t think that was the issue at all

Well whatever the issue that got you to this point, I’m sorry to hear that you didn’t get better service from that shop because of the owner. I hope things will work out to your benefit somehow in the end.

well we shall see. hopefully on saturday the car will be running and driving so who knows lol and after seeing jhm’s heads im thinking lol

Haha, yea ‘thinking’ can get expensive real quick.
