So my plan by the end of the year (sometime in the winter, possibly the fall) is to buy a new car. I might keep the 3.0, we will see how my finances are by then.

I made a google spreadsheet of criteria because at this point I am very undecided. I thought a list of criteria on a scale of 1-10 would be a good way to determine things factually. The results I put in surprised me a bit.

The cars listed are the only ones ive test driven and researched so far. (RS4 would be on the list but I haven’t driven one and they are hard to find). I left out a b6/b7 s4 because I want something 2008 or newer, not looking to deal with the quirks of an older used car this time around… Although I might put it on the list, it’s an awesome car.

I left it editable (please don’t ruin the spreadsheet lol). If you have another car you want to add or input on the numbers let me know.

Just a note, the price criteria is based on me setting a cap of $60,000 after taxes and other fees. I’m in Canada so our pricing is different… a used c63 is the same price or even cheaper than a comparable S4 in terms of year and mileage.

LOL, yea it’s pretty nerdy, but it seems like a good way to assess my options.

There are 2 RS4’s for sale within a few hundred kms of me that I know of, and they are not what I want. If one pops up around the time I’m buying then things might change, this is to narrow down my available options.

Just can’t see myself driving a bimmer, even though it was a fun car :stuck_out_tongue:

Here’s what will happen. I’ll decide to get the c63, say peace to audi. Then come this fall I’ll find a deal on an rs4 and get it. I’ll get a jhm tune and exhaust, run 11.x (if it’s out by then hahahahahahah) and I’ll spend my spare time trolling on quattrofail.

Why no m3? Fuck the 335 its good but it is dime a dozen. The m3 is fantastic and nay be the last all motor m car sold. Its all boosted turbo cars going forward.

Lol I think we had a 335i discussion a few months ago, they are a dime a dozen. I could deck a 335i out with a ton of mods for not much $$$, but it looks boring and its a bmw. Not really too high on my list mentally but it’s an option.

M3 is fricking pricey here, my budget of $60k after everything has me looking at '10-'12 cars mostly, and even the used m3’s are out of that price range. The cheapest ones around here are over 50k and all 2008. 2010 and up is high 60k to 70k.

Plus it’s a BMW.

M3 gets an exemption from the BMW stereotype thing. I know lots of dickheads drive them, but it’s so good, I look past it.

Frankly they’re all good cars. The smartest one to buy is the 2012 S4. Warranty, fast, fun, comfortable, modern. Can’t go wrong. Thing is if you don’t love it, I wouldn’t spend that type of money on it just because it’s ‘sensible’. You’re pretty young right? well soon enough you won’t be able to vote with your heart…you’ll have to buy based on what makes sense. So I’d get the stupid car out of the way for the next few years. C63, M3, RS4 if you can find one…one of those would be excellent fun. The RS4 adds an element of sensibility with AWD, but we can overlook that for now lol.

Yea im 23. I think the reason I’m stuck deciding is exactly that. The s4 is by far the most sensible choice, on paper it’s perfect, but not as “fun” as the other 3 cars. My a4 is more “fun” that it for f*ck sakes lol.

That narrows it down pretty well, it will just come down to price, options and what’s available at the time.

Whoah… has anyone looked at the pricing on facelifted c6 a6’s!!! I was at an audi meet last night and a guy had a beautiful 2009 c6 a6. 3.0T engine, sick car. Around here they are priced a good $10,000 or so less than an S4 of the same year. They are cheap!

Not a ton of info on performance but I’m guessing stock they would do a mid-high 13s 1/4 mile.

I had a C6 A6 3.0T loaner car last year and did some pbox performance testing. It’s in the A6 section. It was pretty quick. probably a 14.0 car at worst?

Oh cool… I think i can pick one up locally for around $30,000 which is awesome. Tune, some nice wheels and I’m set paying half of what I thought I would be, lol. That’s about what a b7 s4 goes for around here, so it’s a pretty attractive option.

Since the C6 A6 3.0T was mentioned, you could probably get into a C6 S6 with the V10FSI for within your budget. The depreciation on those things is absolutely massive!

Yea they are priced around the same too… that would be awesome, totally unpractical though… I wonder if JHM would write a tune, since they did for the 5.2L R8. It’s probably held back a ton.

They’re around fifty grand for an 09 and forty grand for an 08. Only one 09 for sale in all of Canada right now.

Potentially cool car but a hair slow and heavy. Count Vohn was thinking of grabbing one and going full JHM with it…I would love to see that.
