my quest for the 12's

where to start this… ok so after i bought the car i had only planned on a few mods. (oh how wrong i was lol)

ok so after 6 months of owning the car. i was starting to get used to the power it had over my wolfsburg jetta. I started to plan some near future mods ie. down pipes, tune cause it had a catback and coilovers on it. when i started to hear a slight knock coming from the motor!! so i had to figure out what was causing this knock. so i searched far and wide about build date issues and timingchain guides breaking. so after i had a few people look at the cars issues they all thought it was lifter related. so after many long nights searching what the fourms had to say about it. i made the decission to replace the timing chain guides!! so about a week after i found out what the labor would be due to me leaving the state for work for a month.

i decided since there going to be in there working on the guides i might as well do some mods. so i went with the jhm IM/IM spacers/and the heat sheild under the IM ,93 octane tune w/ LA, LWFW Stage 4 clutch, LWCP, apikol snub mount, 034 snub mount bracket, jhm trio package shifter, and trex turk 2.5 catless DP. and the timing chain kit. i chose all of those mods A. to fit in my budget and B.its the key componets almost everyone ran minus the IM cause well its not cheap lol. so im in yuma AZ. for work. the shop Euro Enginuity did the work and said before the new year the car would be done. so i was super happy looking forward to a faster S4. so the day before new years i get a text message saing the car should be ready that night. so super excited i got the remaing funds togther to get the car and boom. i get a phone call saying it still ticks like a time bomb and my heart sank my wife screaming just sell the car. (lol never!!!) so i said dig in to it and find out what the issue is. and i got a phone call about 20 min. later saying they discovered my passenger side exhaust cam had a shot lobe two rocker arms were broke and a LIFTER failed!!! third cylinder back. so i scoured the forums far and wide to find a head, parts anything i can to try to fix this and a audizine forum member came through and posted he had one. so new years day i drove to maryland to pick up a head to fix my car with. so about three weeks later i get my car back.

so now im breaking the car in properly. 1000miles of no beating on it was killer. but i got through it. after the break in period i decided i wanted to chage the stock air box out and try some diffrent things. cone filters, sheilding no sheilding, velocity stack filters. not the proven k&n drop in. so afterr about two weeks of diffrent ideas and tests sheilding and a cone filter felt ok. it honestly felt like i was gaining more low end but nothing more up top.so by this time i was heading to the dyno @ national speed in wilmignton, nc. and a certin unitronic car was meeting me there as he was going to aslo dyno his after the tune and compare to the previous owners stock dyno pulls. these are the two videos of m-dubs dyno runs . http://youtu.be/ntw0XYPhGGs and after http://youtu.be/tK9KZWT_L84 . sadly mine didnt show up and honestly i dont care lol. but i made 299awhp/298awtq. and i was a little bummed that was all it made. im not going to lie cause after 7k of mods i was exppecting a little bit more. so then m-dub goes out of his way to make my car look bad!! so count vohngot in touch with me and well i then realized that it really didnt matter what the dyno says it what the time slip says. he made alot of very valid points along with everyone on this forum that guided me into going this far into the build.

ok so after all this i realized my catback is my weak point damn you previous owner!!! lol sry i had too. so i now know i need a proper 2.5 inch catback and to ditch my HOT AIR intake and put the stock box and drop in that famous K&N filter now to touch more on that. with the hot air intake to the stock box with a paper filter i could barely notice a diffrence except in the mid to high range rpm band the car kinda choked a bit so i was curious cause the cone filter did a similar thing but down low. so ok maybe it was cause the stock filter was bad or mybe cause i pay close attention to random things ohwell so after i put the k&n in i notice the exhaust note got louder more crisp and defined and on top of that it felt so much more powerfull till about 6k when the well catback just cant handle the flow. so now that you have seen all this crappy news ive heard and the dumb mods ive done on my own. we move on.

so now that the back story is done on this quest!! about a one moth diffrence between the dyno and the track. so me and euroswagr went out to our local track and had some fun. so i set my eyes on the infamous 12’s mark but to be excat it was a time of 12.89 due to that being the fastest down piped all motor b6/b7 s4. and well i did it with a 12.83 yay!!! heres a video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z6TivDFip2Q so well now that im there my quest has changed a bit i want the title of the fastest all motor b6/b7 s4 in the world and hopfully a stupid low 12 second pass would be sweet. over all what ive learned is there is a primer or a staple for instense to get in the 12’s tune 2.5 catback and DP’s and the all important jhm im IMOP!! i would also like to thank the as i would say pioneers in this platform. JHM!!!,91gl,sakimano,justincredible,count vohn,b6joes4 and trexturk for the DP’s.

that’s it, I’m ordering the IM and Stage 4 clutch and LWFW tonight…I’m gonna make sure it’s not easy for you to get that world’s fastest all motor “Title”

I like your preface to the events of sunday though…it takes a lot to stick with a car that gives nothing but problems, but I have to tell you my friend…it proved to be worth it.

Thank you and I totaly agree I also agree you nees that clutch and flywheel

Cliff Notes version?

what a great post and super exciting results. This is very impressive.

I have a deep appreciation for your approach and honesty. I have seen first hand the down fall of the So called “intakes” getting a JHM intake manifold is a true intake. The hot air filters have something to offer. Performance isn’t one of them.

As for the dyno. As deep into performance as I am. I have never been a fan of the dyno. There are so many variables that truly can skew the power readings. I was a Pro dyno fan till I had something close to what you had happen. I dynoed Vs my neighbors Hemi cuda. He dynoed close to what I did. I have to say with the money and mods into my car at the time I felt kinda like you did. When we raced on the way home I felt worlds better. No matter how you shake it. The street test is king.

You slips are a badge of honor. The video just shows how great of a performance car you have. To take down a Supercharged mustang then to have a WS6 fall to you guys followed my a BIG block chevy and turbo talon. Just shows the track isn’t a fast track. Your car ran a solid time. Congrats

Thank you.

Joe I didnt think about how long it is

That’s what she said…lol

Seriously though, good sh*t man. You’ve taken some major lumps with the lifter failure and all. BUT, with new timing components and obviously a strong engine she’ll be around for a long time. Can’t wait to see what you put down with the 2.5". It’d be great to see you hit the 12.6x’s

That’s a weird name for a chick

Ryan it’s good that you get the formula for making big power on these cars without just throwing FI at it or trying to venture into unproven territory just to be different. Your mod list is really pretty simple and you’re in the 12’s which is awesome.

I’m definitely getting an IM in a month or so

J stands for Joe.

(and jealous :D)

Of me? cause trust me there are plenty of other fast cars out there im just lucky enough to have been able to read all tbe posts and learn from others mistakes

I so yesterday I got new tires 245/30/19 nexen 3000.

next set of tires should be 235/45/17 Hankook RS3s lol

Lol I didnt think 17’s would fit! I had rs3’s on my jetta and they fucking rock!

Did you have the blq’s on for this run?

Yes and your dp

The reason you got into the 12’s was the dp’s lol

If you where on some lightweight wheels, you’d get much better times I’d think

Looks like I gotta get the IM as well and try this quest for the 12s.

Ryan are you running on 91 or 93 tune?

I agree lighter wheels will help tons. And im running a 93 tune and the run was made with 1\2 a tank of shell 93.

lighter wheels won’t help much I’d bet.

  1. your wheels weren’t that heavy to begin with.
  2. your tires are light as all hell already what with them being so insanely stretched (WAY smaller size than just about anyone runs, thus WAY less rubber, and the tires are the most important rotating weight to cut when it comes to wheels/tires).

I bet his tires/wheels weigh about 50 lbs each. Basically same as stock. Dropping that to 22 lb wheels and 22 lb tires will chop 24 lbs rotating mass…i.e. JHM LW front rotors…but that’s not going to cause anything earthshattering on a timeslip. Maybe a tenth

I bet those big hoss wheels weigh 32lbs. For comparison, VMR 19x8.5 RS4 reps weigh 29lbs and they have a lot less spoke than BLQ’s and obviously they’re narrower. Those tires weight what?..24lbs. That’s roughly 56lbs a corner. So some 18x8 RPF1’s with tires brings that down to 40lbs. That’s a total of 64lbs of rotating mass…that’s a TON(not literally) of weight being dropped.
