My visit to Thompson today :)

Nice runs Ron! Great to see you got into the 11.5’s. That 2-3 hangup really sucks though. I wonder if you have a older version of the TCU tune. Only reason I say that, is my car does not do that. Anyway, I’m sure APR will figure it out.

Thanks man! Yeah, I am very happy given I think there’s more left. Yes, the 2-3 is bad but the 4-5 is even worse and both slow me down… lol As for what version, I’ve had quite a few so not sure which it is? I’d like to see gopros of other 2010’s with apr dsg tune making passes…

Not the best video, as I was holding my iPhone. I just wanted to see if any boost was being made with a 5,000rpm launch. You can catch my 2-3 shift at the end.

Hopefully the links work, I’m trying to do it from my iPhone.

How is your TT-RS clutch holding up? Any idea if its the same design as the B8? If its holding up I will assume it isn’t.

Thanks for taking the time to explain the launch technique. It sounds like a brief brake torque kind of thing if I am understanding. I tried just slamming the gas pedal and ended up running a 2.2 lol. If I want to get better I probably just need to get a pbox and practice your technique. I’m looking forward to seeing your 11.3.

Mike

damn… your car pulls Ron!

Ryan, thanks for posting those… Looks like your car is moving slightly before it actually launches? I see/hear what appears to be some clutch slippage, no? I really don’t see LC on any S4 besting launching off idle and if it does it will be by hundredths. Now that AMAX works every time all I want is the hangup on the 2-3 and 4-5 gone and I’ll be a very happy camper…

d.p., It’s holding up well and is not the same as the S4 I’m sure… However, keep in mind the car has 2,900 miles and I’ve only made 15 or so passes at the strip but those were all pretty hard launches between 3,500-5,500 RPM… Much different car weight wise obviously and also being haledex vs true quattro…

Mike, No problem! Hope it helps… I wouldn’t call it a brake tq only because if you do start giving it gas while on the brakes it will negatively impact the 60’s. It’s more of a simultaneous thing and just takes practice to get the feel down… If what I’m hearing is true about the next step 11.3x may not be out of the question, will see soon enough…

Will, Thanks man!

You went 12.1 @ 115? What mods? Do I have that on the list?

Nvmnd just checked, I do

12.1 @ 115 with just a frigging tune, on 93?

That’s awesome. Dude you have to make an 11 second pass in that thing. I always forget you have that car.

Ron, I’m with ya, I will only be using the mash and go method. I just posted the videos to show my 2-3 shift.

I find it so funny that you guys are running 11.5x’s with the stock blower and this new 10k blower only has a posted 11.1. I know I know the DA was sh*t. But common. They had removed interior & drag radials.

So sad, but yet so comical.

Anyways. Awesome times Prime!

yes they had removed front seat, rear seat, trunk parts,
they also had no catback exhaust
as you mentioned they had tiny track wheels and drag slicks

Most important? It was running a prototype pulley that won’t even be included with the kit. Basically the times they ran with the actual pulley were horrendous, so they panicked and pulled this bullshit.

Sure their DA wasn’t great, but don’t forget…this kit has been on at least one car at APR for THREE YEARS already. The DA has been great a few thousand times.

Don’t also forget that primetime just went 11.5 with poor shift hangups and slow engagement. And bleeding lots of boost. Wait till he has a stage 2+ file to take advantage of 2 pulleys.

I personally don’t think APR will write him a stage 2+ file. As much as people want to pretend that APR isn’t involved in the stage 3 kit (lol) reality says they’re not only selling tuning on potentially hundreds of kits (at $1000+ a pop) and they are planning to sell upgraded pulleys and tuning (another $2000 per). Helping Ron make the stage 3 guys look silly isn’t in their best interests. Nor is helping JHM sell overdrive pulleys.

To that end, I think people who want a stage 2+ tune will have to go to GIAC/AWE…or will have to go to JHM if the rumours of them prepping a 3.0T tuning offering are true.

Wow good job dude!

Ryan, I see… So when you just punch it you’re not getting the 2-3 hangup or 4-5?

mad, Thanks man!

Saki, Everything is being addressed… ;D

Jake, Thanks man! Appreciate the pulley as it’s helping a decent amount and should only get better as the air gets better!

No problem!

Are you going for the record before you step up to the next phase of your plan?

I’ll be at the track every weekend until the end of Nov. weather dependent… Configuration will be dependent on what gets done between visits… No stage III until spring at the earliest but the other mod may hapeen this weekend just depends on a few variables…

this is exciting!

Just one question…why does the op say ‘go apr’

All Apr did was make a Transmission tune that made you slower and you’re still slower than 2 GIAC cars as a result.

Shouldn’t it say GO JHM?

WOW this is terrific. One day without all the bugs worked out and your in second place again. Looks like first place again and the B8 S4 crown isnt far off.

This is a great achevement for the B8. Have you talked to APR they have to be super excited about this. I would think even with the stage 3 stuff they would want to help support this set of mods. Can you tell us if APR is going to or is already helping with this.

Great job

LOL! I thanked JHM for their contribution… When they can tune the ecu/tcu I may explore it until then it’s GO APR!

Just remember I drink 7-up and I’m looking forward to drinking the one you’re going to owe me very soon! ;D

Justin, Thanks man! Agreed, the dsg tune has been through many revisions and it’s close… Wish it didn’t take this long but they continue to work with me and address the issues so I’m confident it will get done sooner than later and I’m looking forward to some clean passes…

Yes, I’ve been in contact with the folks at APR and they’re happy the car is getting there and they’re dedicated to make it right and make me very happy which in turn will help them! Yes, APR is already helping… If all goes well I should have several changes for this Sat. Weather’s looking great for killer times but there is a chance of rain so we’ll see…
