My visit to Thompson today :)

So as mentioned in the pulley thread I felt comfortable running the car down the strip after reviewing the logs from this morning so I went… Good decision on my part!

My Car: 2010 Audi S4 - DSG with sports dif, 9,495 miles, 1/4 tank of gas, tools and spare removed

Mods: APR tune, APR DSG tune with LC disabled, APR pulley, JHM crank pulley, LFC’s, miltek non-res exhaust, custom intake, APR CPS, front and rear sways, Alu Kruez, Brembo BBK, JHM LW rear rotors, BBS CHR’s, tire pressure 38F 34R

Conditions: 56F, 30.22BP, and 62% humidity for a DA of 1,099

http://www.dragtimes.com/da-density-altitude-calculator.php?temperature=55.9&rh=62&altset=30.22&elevation=1230&track=58&month=10&day=10&year=2015&time=10:53%20AM

Made a total of 4 passes today… As mentioned above no LC all runs were launched off idle. DSG tune needs one more revision as the launch is perfect and the car goes in AMAX mode, 1-2 shift is perfect, 2-3 hung up everytime, 3-4 is perfect, and the 4-5 is the worse. You’ll see when I post the go pros… Honestly, based on previous hangups pre dsg tune those cost me .1-.15!
Here is the best pass which was my second one…

1.6216 60ft
4.8226 330ft
7.4556 1/8et
93.82 1/8mph
9.6942 1000ft
11.5843 1/4et
119.90 1/4mph

I also cut a 1.618 60ft on another pass.
I’ll post the go pros and slips here shortly, just need to grab a bite to eat as I’m starving. I was going to stay but it’s an event day and I snuck all those passes in then I had to wait a few hours so I bailed as conditions weren’t going to get better… I also logged the passes but haven’t reviewed them yet. Anyone, who want to review them let me know and I’ll be glad to share…
GO APR!
;D

Edits: To add slips… 2nd edit for vids…

Great times! Nice 60ft of idle!

TY! Yeah, this car is a 60ft monster and always has been… 1.61 is my best though… I didn’t think I’d do as well with the shift hangups so I can’t wait until those are addressed!

Nice times!

Thanks man! You too! Welcome to AR, you’ll like it here…

Nice times!! Jealous of those 60’s but I could never bring myself to do a DSG.

I also wish some 6MT’s with aftermarket clutches would go to the track.

funny, I watched the video and thought ‘Hmm…wonder what he ran on this one…maybe 11.8 @ 118 or somethign?’ I didn’t realise that was the 11.5 pass until after I watched it.

It seemed to bounce badly off teh rev limiter in 2nd, and then slip engagement on 3rd. Engaging 2nd didn’t seem too peppy either. If that was an 11.5 it will be cool to see a regular pass.

Honestly I’d like to see you run sans TCU. That thing is doing literally nothing for you.

Nice Ron. That’s a killer 60’. I’m looking forward to what it can do without the hangup, and also the next round of mods. Send the logs my way when you get a chance.

What’s your plan on the DSG tune? Do you have enough to go back to APR to take a stab at getting it right? I’d like to get it, but I want to know it fully works on your car first…

That’s great stuff Ron, very encouraging about the requested load giving you almost enough headroom to max out the new pulley.

Matty, great to have you here, will you consider coming if we go next Sunday? Thread is in General Discussion section.

Ron, send the logs to me for sure

d.p., yeah I drove both back in 2010 and was enamored by the dsg… It’s been good to me… Thankfully, my daily is a 5-speed and the TTRS a 6-speed so I get my fill… Honestly, I drive stick ok(1.6x’s in my rs) and would love to test a 6-speed s4 with my mods and a good clutch… I actually think I could do better 60 wise but it would be abusive as my TTRS launches are very very violent!

Saki, Yeah, I put that one up first but the others are up… You can see the shifting issues more in some than the others but it happened everytime…

I think the AMAX shifting and higher redline help, how much is debatable… If APR wasn’t good about fixing things I’d have it taken off but they are determined to get it perfect so I’ll keep trying as it’s close…

Josh, Thanks bud! Pretty stoked but really wish all the shifts were all perfect as the ET would have been very nice… Got several weeks left and I’ll be trying each weekend… lol

Already, traded emails with APR… The shifts will be addressed soon and maybe the target boost also ;D May go one more week before the next mod…

Thanks J! I appreciate it… I don’t think I’ll bypass boost much longer…

I’d planned to send the logs to you, josh and mike either way… Matty wants them and I’m sure Tsivas will as well…

Congrats on the runs…I wish I could pull a 60’ close to that…thanks for posting results they give me a good sense of expectations with regard to the possibilities of these cars with the various mods…very cool

Nice job Ron. Send them on over.

Great times, Ron! I’m looking forward to seeing more passes when you get the TCU issue in order.

Excellent times and it looks like there is more in there too. I’d be happy to look at the logs too if you want anymore input. Do you think you could let me know or point me to a link where you discuss how you launch so well? I use lc every time because I can’t launch as well as it but I only end up at 1.89 and low 1.9x… Thanks
Mike

Congrats man. Glad to see the car is moving out well with the new mod, those 60’s are awesome!! Excited to see what else you have in store

k9, Thanks! You’re in the right place in terms of discussing how to make the S4 faster…

tsivas, Thanks bud! I’ll include you… Just finished eating and will take a quick look than email them…

Jeff, thanks for the props :stuck_out_tongue:

Brandon, thanks! I’m looking forward to the next month also… Could 11.3x on this blower be possible???

Mike, thanks! Oh yeah, there’s more to be had with the shifts, DA, and bypass… Sure I don’t mind sharing the logs and am always open to feedback… PM me your email… Didn’t forget about measuring the pulley… My brother is coming over tonight so I told him to bring the calipers and will measure the stocker…

As for launching it’s really easy just a little practice and being consistent…

Pull up to the lights and make sure the car is perfectly straight and creep up to just trigger the first light. Then use two feet and put your left foot on the brake and right on the gas. This helps speed up the transition. w/o giving the car any gas just ease up on the brake until your barely and I mean barely trigger the the 2nd light. Shallow staging is key to very killer 60’s IMO. Once triggered push the brake very hard and have your right foot ever so slightly pushing the gas but not really giving it gas almost like taking the slack out. On the 2nd to last yellow(if you care about reaction time if not don’t worry about the light) in one motion and very quickly sidestep the brake at the same time you floor the gas and press the gas very hard and fast so that your accelerator position goes to max immediately. This is basically what I do, really not much to it… lol

Few other factors as well…

Good tires are important and you need to play with tire pressure based on conditions. For example today was fairly average temp wise but the real plus was it was sunny so the track wasn’t very cold which usually requires a lower air pressure. Colder days and you’ll need to drop pressure more and more. Warmer you can go higher and higher. I try to go 4-6 more psi in the fronts then rears as the car squats and more power is going to the rears. Today I went 38 and 34 was going to go lower but the track was actually warm to the touch so I felt ok, and maybe should of went 40-36… Also, having some heat in the tires especially when the track is cold is key as you’ll get bad wheel hop with cold tires and track. Depending on how long I’m sitting and how cold it is I’ll use the pit area, staging lane, and return road to put heat in the tires by turning back and forth… Too much air in any conditions and the car will spin but not bad. You just need to get a feel for what works based on your car and the conditions… I probably am overboard on this area but it seems to work so whatever…

Haha sorry. I really want to organize massive meet. East coast guys trying to see if they can make Toronto for 25th. Level the playing field with top 3 Audis and have a blast.

Good times, I know those hangups are a bitch. They really bring you down because you know the rest of the run was perfect.

I feel your et will improve but not your trap. Et is Def (at least to me) improve due to new shift program, I like.

Trap might improve a little. I could be wrong.

DA is almost exactly same as my run, your 60’ was better but mph could be a little higher. Who knows though, that 2-3 hangup could be whats keeping you from a 11.4@122

Thanks bud! I was just messing with you… Agreed on your assessment on ET I think it’s has a little more in trap like mid 120’s which I’ve done before… I’d say given we have very similar mods are cars are pretty damn even and both probably could go 11.4x with a great run and da.

Copied you on the logs and just sent them…

I’m puzzled between these and the ones this morning… Almost no bypass… I need to compare to others I have just can’t right now… Target boost was way up? Let me know what you guys think… Appreciate it!
