New B8 A5 Owner

Hey all, im the new owner of a deep sea blue pearl 2011 A5 8 speed quattro. It has 270,000kms but in great shape. Luckily for me, the timing chain and tensioner have already been replaced with the new updated stuff. Car runs and drives great in all ways. I do find this car seems to be a bit less responsive than other 2.0t vws and Audis I’ve driven. It seems like the turbo doesn’t really come alive until about 2500 and there’s definitely a delay when I want to accelerate hard and pass someone. Is it just due for a tuneup and maybe carbon clean?

Great car. The 2009 to like 2014 cars had turbo units that the WG arm would break or not work properly. But with that you would get slow boost ramp but also over time a CEL. So if you don’t have a CEL it could be from just being more of just perhaps maintanence or overall the cars power curve. Set from the factory.

I’m definitely leaning towards maintenance. Its quite sluggish compared to my mom’s tiguan or a VW cc project I recently got running. 2 things that caught my attention, one being the rad fans seem to run all the time, even before the car is warmed up. Two, I tried testing the intake manifold runners with VCDS, and I just got a system not ok and couldn’t get the motor to cycle, but I don’t have the typical p2015 code. I know from us talking on my S6 5.2 post how those flaps are important for good bottom end power. I just got an endoscope camera so I can try investigating for carbon buildup or something going on with those runners

I know the 2.0Ts did have issues with the intake runners. So that is a good place to start. As for the carbon generally the turbo or forced inducted motors can go much much longer between carbon cleans.

Another question is i need to replace one of the fog lights, are they LEDs on a prestige edition car? Need to figure out why one of my headlights also shut off after a few minutes of driving.

Probably not LED in your fogs. The headlights are HID I’m assuming and it sounds like you have one bulb starting to go south. I had the same issue with my driver’s headlight. It’d come on but go off after a short period of time. Replacing the bulb solved the issue.

At that mileage, your turbo could simply be worn. The shaft wears inside the CHRA and it slowly abrades the compressor blades OR the exhaust gases eat at the turbine end over time and it just becomes less efficient. Seals wear, etc…but it could be a number of things related to sensors, throttle body, even compression ratio. You won’t know unless you go through everything. I used to have a Tiguan with that motor so I know how peppy it can feel.
