New Coil Packs on Audi. YEA.....

I got one of those Ignition Coil inspection notices from Audi.
So I went and when they were done 6 new shiny Coil Packs.
The wouldn’t let me keep the old ones.
Said they had to turn them in.
What ever that means.

Glad I waited. I was going to have Induktion replace them.
Out of pocket $ for me = 0.

Cool Beans…

Its a 2003 A4 3.0L

Nice…I find it a bit strange that people with B6’s are still receiving letters regarding their coil packs

what year model do you have

Yeah I’m surprised too. They initially did that back in 2010.

I got mine replaced back in June of 2010 I believe. I’m guessing that most people that are getting letters now picked up their cars between the initial letter being sent out and now? Or the first round of letters got lost for some people.

First post!

I just got my recall notice in the mail last week. I bought the car used, so I assume that Audi’s records showed that the coil packs had never been replaced and they only found out I owned the car last year when I got rear-ended and brought it in for a touch-up.

Big of them to offer to replace the ignition coils.

Especially since I’ve been tracing an odd but fairly consistent miss or stumble lately. Finally got a CEL on the way to work today, luckily I didn’t have to drive very far to get back home. 0300, 0302 pending, 0304 pending, 0306. That’s a lot of coils to break at once!

Hope the change out fixes the problem.

if I were getting coils done, I’d ask them how much (if any) extra labour there would be to replace the spark plugs, especially if I had just bought the car.

I have heard of one dealer who replaced the spark plugs with no additional labour. Another wanted $400.

So ask…you never know…and I can just about guarantee your used S4 has not had the spark plugs replaced since they’re usually done OUTSIDE of Audi Care…usually costs about $500 to get done in cluding labour…and is an easy ‘skip’ for most typical S4 owners (not us car nerds who love replacing stuff…I mean the public).

Provided the dealer is following the service intervals properly, they should be changed out every 30-40k miles as part of routine service. I know that the dealer changed them for me by only asking for the standard service for the mileage I was at.

Before I got the notice from Audi I had my car at Induktion for a tune up and sparkplug replacement.
They told me they would check the Coilpack and if they needed replacing they would tell me.
Induktion said the coilpacks looked ok. I was going to change them anyway at a cost of $35.-$45. each.
I decided not to.
Then Audi sent me the notice and they changed/replaced all 6 for NO cost to me.

I got lucky.
