New ECU needed. Where to buy?

I need a new ECU for a 2003 manual 3.0. My local dealer wants $800. ECS wants $770. genuineaudiparts.com wants $640. Any other suggestions? I feel like I could get it for $640 from my local dealer but I would hate to spend that much. Thanks

I’m sure they will have what you need, make sure you have the origional part number when you call not a updated part number from the dealer.

Wait l thought ECS had ECU’s for like 75$ what happened to that.

I would check Car part.com. You can get a used one I Would suggest that. I was a few on there for 80$

What do you need a new ECU for? Here is why I ask. When you get a new ECU your going to need to get your immobilizer stuff done and this will be expensive.

Emissions. What is this immobilizer you speak of?

Gotta match part numbers for sure. I have one that I would give you for a song but it won’t work in your car. :frowning:

The ECU that you have in your car right now (the broken one - I assume - that you’re trying to replace) is uniquely matched to your vehicle with what’s called an immobilizer chip. Every time you start your car that chip has to match the data on the other modules in your car (i.e.: the dash). If you get a replacement ECU, usually the most expensive part of it is having the dealer (or someone else with these capabilities) cloning your immobilizer onto your new ECU.

If you do end up getting an ECU, we offer these cloning services for as little $100. Feel free to send me an email at sales@jhmotorsports.com if you have any further questions.

^^Good to know

Also, it’s not COMPLETELY necessary to get the same exact part number ECU. We are able to clone the entire contents of a functioning ECU (sometimes we can even clone not functioning ones, depending on the issue) and put them onto a different 3.0 ECU. For example, if you bought one of those ECS “Reman.” ECUs, we’re able to clone the contents of your ECU on to those blank ones. We need both ECUs to complete the process though.

Costs for this service vary based on the state of the original and donor ECU.

Thanks for the help guys. Shokan has it used for $400 shipped. Would you recommend I buy that or a remanufactured ecu from a dealer for $660? I would hate to have the same problem in 6 months.

I too would like to know this because I will need an ECU to get my tune in a few months.

I would like to know what exactly they do to a remanufactured unit?

400 is WAY TOO MUCH.

post yiour box id and lets all help you sorce a cheaper on. 400 is WAY too much espcially due to you haveing a immobilizer its not just plug and play;.

The part number on my current ECU is 8E0909559E

My mechanic tells me that its a ground problem within the ECU. The code that comes up is P0050 which is for the O2 sensor. We replaced it and the code still comes back. He went through the checklist and determined I need a new ECU. Or he tells me that if the O2s are coded out then my ECU will be fine. Does the JHM tune do that?

Thanks for the help all. I really appreciate it.

off hand I don’t know what 02 code P0050 is for. If its for the front 02’s then you wouldn’t want to code them out. If its for rear 02’s then that might not be an issue and I know JHM has coded out keaton’s ECU and I believe a few others. Keep in mind that each 3.0 Ecu is different and your ECU might not be so easy to code out the rear 02’s. I still don’t see why JHM couldn’t do it. It just miht take a few trys

Thanks for the quick reply, Keaton!
