NEW HPFP's Coming Soon

Thanks to JimmyBones, justincredible and the site I’ve concluded that the two HPFP’s need to be replaced. I found some interesting stuff regarding pricing on these between dealerships (got them for $100 under msrp), but needless to say I should have them next week.

I feel pretty confident doing this job myself and understand how to depressurize the system, etc. I do need to pick up a new torque wench and was checking out the manual recommended vag 1331 - looks pretty awesome with various attachments, etc.

Any words from the wise out there on doing this procedure? I’m planning on replacing the two pumps (07L127026AD) and accompanying o-rings. What about #8 in the part diagram? Should the roller-tappet/cam follower also be replaced? I know some inspect these for wear after removal, but I believe they’re < $100.

** I did notice that JHM offers some type of core refund with upgrading HPFP’s. After looking at the pump assembly I wondered why there is not a rebuild kit. Doing a bit of searching did turn up that some people have figured out a way to remove the two bolts in the top of the pump (see attached), but I didn’t go further. Has anyone cracked into any of audi’s hpfp’s to resurrect or upgrade? **

Nice, how much did they run you?

The cam follower on the 5.2 is great. The 2.0t cam follower is crap and they need to swap them every so many miles. Its a terrible design. But the 5.2 has a cam rollor on the bottom so thats pretty solid. You can pull the follower out and inspect it but its not really something that needs to be changed like on the other cars.

As for the JHM rebuild kits and the core system. I think HPFP pumps being so important not too many companys are going to want to leave that rebuild up to the customer IMHO. So its just eaiser to have a core exchange system where they can inspect the pumps and change or rebuild whatever parts might need to get changed.

keep us posted on how everything goes

I posted something in the Info Dump thread about this, as I replaced my HPFP’s myself about a year ago. It was easy, 20 minute job. I donated my old ones to JHM so they could use them for R&D, I’m not sure if anything came of that yet or not.

Also of note, the HPFP’s you buy from audi now have a different part number than the ones that came in our cars. So it seems Audi made some kind of change to them recently, but I don’t know what. Considering this is a fairly well-known and common problem, it wouldn’t surprise me if Audi fixed something about them, I’m just not sure what.

I have two new HPFPs sitting in a box in an extra bedroom that I got a month or 2 ago. Had no idea JHM had a core return program though or else I probably would’ve used that instead. Thanks for the information nonetheless.
