New M3 and M4 just released..

BMW released some bullshit 3300lb weight figure that’ll turn into 3600 curb weight when it hits the US and tuned up a 335i and put some ///M badges on it…

BMW is sucking lately…

This is probably a better comparison on the weight:
I don’t think you are comparing apples to apples on that weight comparison. The weight listed is likely empty weight and would compare as follows:

E46 M3 at 1,474 kg = 3,250 lbs
F82 M4 at 1,500 kg = 3,306 lbs
E92 M3 at 1,605 kg = 3,538 lbs
That’s really interesting.

They said 80 KG less than the E92. Reality is the E92 weighed in around 3750 lbs if you got one with sunroof like many people did once it was offered. So you’re looking at 3600 lbs or so.

I am struggling to see where it is being differentiated from the 335is or something along those lines. Basically it’s a bigger boost 3L I6 making tuned 335 power and torque, with some nice fancy parts like a carbon fibre driveshaft.

It’s just too similar (from 30,000 feet) to the 335/135.

Now, will everyone freak out the way they did when Audi put out a fully revised 4.2 FSI in the RS5/RS4 (B8)? Or will they hail BMW as innovators?

Will be interesting. The good news is that this should finally put a bullet in the head of all the ill informed folks who still crow that the RS5/RS4 (B8) ‘should have had the 4.0T engine’. The benchmark is going with a small V6. That’s pretty much all you need to see to see how absurd moaning for a 4.0T is.

The only question I have is…WWMD? What WILL Mercedes do? New C63 can only be a year away or so.

All the BMW guys seem to be quiet happy about the decision to go F.I V6 but I for one think its a stupid idea… The V8 made the M3 special the same way the RS4 and RS5 will always be near and dear to my heart. Hearing a V8 rev passed 8k is wonderful…

Like you said its a glorified 335 which is nothing to write home about…

I personally think the next RS4/RS5 should also go the lightweight route and go with a slightly higher HP TTRS engine. I think 400hp/400tq 2.5 I5 with a 3400lb curb weight RS4/5 would be epic and quite throwback to the RS2 days…

Isn’t that why we acquired Ducati anyways? For LW technology…

Imagine what a 400hp I5 Quattro with a DSG in a 3400lb Audi sedan would do…

The 5 cylinder also sounds 10x more exotic and better IMO than a 6 cylinder which makes it an even better idea…

Plus APR Stage 3 I5 on a RS4 would be awesome

That would be cool but that will already be coming here with the RS3 badge on the back. I5 turbo with 4 door sedan that looks like this. Awesome. The 4 cars are too big though for that engine to fly with the mainstream.

RS3 vs. MB CLA 45 vs 1M is a pretty cool battle I will enjoy watching.

Imagine giving this the RS treatment. That’s a badass 175" long sedan (that’s the exact same size as the B5 incidentally)

An RS3 sedan I would buy in a heartbeat…

Basically a 4 door better looking (IMO) TTRS.

Exactly what I want…

yeah just a bit more useful than a TTRS. We can’t all be 5 car ballers like primetime. Some of us have to drive our shit everyday.

Hahahahah yeah plus car insurance is even more killer than the payment… Especially for me… Even a clean record I pay out the ass for insurance bc of my age…

I would even rock that S3, and perhaps I’d settle on the DSG… I think stage 3 2.0 on pump in a DSG S3 we can see mid 11’s if it weights similarly to the Golf R DSG.

I6
