Lots of ford blood on AR myself included. I had lots of fox body cars I still have a terminator but I love my B6 S4 4.2 The calabrator for JHM works at SVT doing the same. They were deep into the fords.
Audi JHM did the same thing for the 4.2 as ford JHM did for the 4.6. As much as you can for the 4.2 All ground breaking stuff. The JHM S5 is going in stages just like most JHM stuff goes. So you can expect to see it go much faster as they add mods and then release them. Same as JHM did in the Fords.
The 4L S5 has lots of potential and I know JHM is deep into it. Looking at how JHM has been with the 4.2 from 2000-2008. The S5 is getting the same help. I just don’t think too many S5 guys are ready to mod like the RS4 or S4 guys.
So with all the ford v8 stuff you have a audi 6 banger with a supercharger. We are going to start calling you thunderbird super coupe
I knew some of this and to be clear I’m talking about the 4.2L B8 S5 vs 3.0T and stage 1 and 2 type, easily reversible mods for each. Unfortunately not so many S5s go to the track but I’m thinking that the S5 3.0T should run about as fast a 3.0T S4. Maybe not, but that’s my math ATM. We’ll see in March or April when Island Dragway opens up as I’ll prob hit it right after opening day.
Considering the 3.0T S4 stock tune results show them in the same range with I believe the record a little faster (12.69?), I’d say the 3.0T, in at least the S4, is doing just fine vs a bolt-on 4.2L in the B8 S5. Not hating, just my logic given what I know which may not be accurate.
Throwing in something like the APR SC as a probably another $15k (installed) mod for the 4.2L kinda changes the landscape for me. Yes I’m sure it’ll be fast but for that kind of $, if I owned a B8 S5, it would certainly get me thinking about what I really wanted. What public knowledge is there of a JHM SC for the 4.2? Is it supposed to be the same as their B6/B7 S4 offerings- vortech centrifugal for $8-9k?
That’s good to know about JHM. I really don’t have any knowledge of the 4.2L engine (or almost all of the pre B8 Audi stuff). Is it roughly or almost exactly the same engine from the 2000-2008 cars?
I totally agree about the S5 guys too. Even on AZ where I spend a bit of time, the B8 S4 guys have a 1/4 sticky and dragtimes has some good records. But The B8 S5 section doesn’t even have the 1/4 mi sticky, same with dragtimes (3 or 4 cars posted). S5 guys are a lot more interested in photo shoots and wheels.
Lol @ Tbird SC. My brother actually had one, I never did.
I’ll have to see if I can dig up some old photos of the v8 Ford stuff I did. Some were pretty cool. Here’s a pick I had framed of my old race car at what I recall was the first year the NMRA. They liked my car so much they actually made it the image on the NMRA membership card for the first two seasons.
I see what your trying to say but the S5 is not the S4 so you can’t say the S5 3.0T is going to be as fast as the S4 3.0T. That clearly would be jumping to conslusions.
I read this forum for a while but I didn’t focus on the culture so much but I’m starting to get a feeling for it more now that I’m posting.
There’s so few B8.5 S5s that go to track, I’ll be one of a select few, lol. Island Dragway in March or April, hopefully a tune not long after that and prod some HPDE this summer, maybe with ACNA.
The APR kit is definitely worth it and completely transformed the Slow5 into what it should be! I went from a stock mid-low 13s car to a high 11s/ low 12s car! Before going with the APR kit last year I made sure to ask JHM if I drove there could they put their vortech S/C on my car. Unfortunately the S5 was too different than the S4/RS4 so it could not be done, but if you do have the 4.2 S5? (2013?) I’d give JHM a call and see were they are at with that development.
I will be doing the full JHM bolt-ons next but I need to start working for that since I have just graduated!
To get the S5 guys to the track I’d have to rent the track, advertise it as a car show meet then set up cones to direct them through tech before getting to the “show area”. Then they’d 90% of the way there and maybe nature would take its course from there on. Maybe.
Cool! I read some of your build thread but I’ll have to go back and read it more.
Any larger displacement engine like a NA V8 will love a little boost and the extra cubes will make it run better on pump gas vs a 3.0L like mine where the boost needs to be cranked up a lot to get it to really run. 11s is a heck of a fast street car. It must sounds awesome as a SC V8!
Pace yourself. What program did you graduate from?
