New Owner of 2010 S6!

Hello AR folks,

After a bit of research and a long time fascination with the S6/V10 platform I am finally an owner! I have been daily driving a BMW M3 Convertible (now for sale) for the last 2 1/2 years and with 2 kids it just got to be too much. Plus the issue of safety has been plaguing my mind as I drive around and see every other person driving and texting. So, after 10 years of BMW ownership (2 x E46 M3’s, an E90 330i sport, an X3) and one period with my wife driving an A4, we are now owners of a beautiful white on black 2010 S6! Purchased for $25k, 58,700 on the odometer and a clean carfax. Car runs awesome, came with BBS wheels on Michelin PSS, lowered but not sure what brand shocks/springs, and with a Milltek resonated exhaust. So far I have only added a winter wheel set (Sparco wheels, Michelin X Ice i3) and am planning on a couple of other things:

  • 55k service is due so that will be done soon and also whatever fluids are not part of that service will also be replaced to give me a solid base to move forward as far as how old all of these things are!
  • replace Milltek Resonators with non-res section to change the exhaust note, I find it a bit deep, need more high pitched V10 sound! (unless anyone suggests not doing this in a daily driver with wife/kids)
  • JHM tune as this sounds like a no brainer to really bring this car alive. I do have a question, software says for off road use only. Is that a California requirement? Will this alter emissions in some way that won’t pass emissions/smog in PA?

Pictures are here.

I would love any comments on the suspension/stance and what anyone with knowledge can see from the few pics I took while the car was on the lift getting the winter setup on. Thanks to this great forum I have learned much about this amazing car (good and bad). Thanks for looking!

Congrats! Looks like all that research paid off - rare(er) color, $3k worth of wheels, $1500 worth of exhaust, not sure what suspension that is - H&R? Great buy and welcome!

“for offroad use only” - declarative statement used to keep from running afoul of the Naz…er the remnants of Hydra…er I mean CARB. Wont make any difference to a sniff test (might even do better), and most the time all you need is a readiness test pass.

Welcome litespeed and as compugeek said great grab.

Good mileage and your in a good spot to get ahead of all the gaskets and little issues.

Here is what the big suggestions are for your mileage

Pull the intake and inspect the intake. They tend to break flaps off and they can make there way into the motor so its worth looking to see what condition your intake manifold is in. Also when the intake manifold is off you can get a chance to do some of the top list things.

1 put in the JHM intake spacers. These spacers drasticly reduce under hood temps and help keep carbon at bay while working to not eat up the O rings and gaskets due to over heat.

2 check for carbon. Your at that point where carbon can be just a small issue. If left unchecked carbon will spread and cause injector issues. About 90% of the owners you see on this forum have had to change or replace out at least 1 injector due to failure. You can pull the injectors and get them cleaned or serviced at this time if you so choose.

3 replace the O rings at the base of the oil filter these tend to leak and cause a headache as its hard to see if they leak with the intake manifold on.

4 inspect and replace the oil seperator drain line and oil separator.

As for the JHM tune it is leaps and bounds better than anything that has been seen over the past 10 years. JHM has been very sucuessful in the NA Audi section for a long long time.

The Tune will not effect you in PA. Again as compugeek said it will be more likely to help you pass PA emissions. As well as help the car run cooler and safer along with all that added power.

If you have any questions post them. We are all here to help No question is a bad question.

Congrats. If that’s the car I think it is, I almost bought it a couple months ago. Welcome to the world of S6 pain/love lol
