JimmyB put that on his supercharged S4, and found it to be very annoying on his long distance cross-country road trip. IIRC, it was too low in the rpm range to climb the mountain passes (i.e., cruising only), and for cruising it was right in the drone range of his exhaust system.
Not much of a discovery but I noticed why Saki called the RS5 a true wide body. There was a S5 in the same parking lot as me yesterday and they don’t have the slightly expanded wheel wells for the wider tires. I’m at my destination and still learning the car. The more I drive it the more I love it. With the windows up the car is remarkably quite, even with the sport exhaust selected.
Euroswager, thanks for those gear ratios. Interesting numbers.
To be honest that’s why you have a clutch and a shift lever though. You drop it to 5th. Or 4th. Or 3rd for 2 minutes.
As for the drone, drone is between 1400-1900 RPMs in an RS4, and having a gear in 6th that at 70 mph is at 2400 RPM or so, that is a non-issue. Maybe Jimmy was cruising at 50 MPH?
I think the RS5 only shares the doors and roof with the other 5s. All of the other panels are different.
Did you have a DSG on the S4? I noticed the transmission on the RS5 felt different (for the better). Almost like it had a slightly different programming.
My S4 was a DSG car. Definite difference in transmissions. Started car this morning and had a CEL. Took it nearest dealer and they found my gas cap gasket had somehow become twisted. Car does a self test intermittently and pressurizes the gas tank checking for leaks, it found one. Quick scan found problem, out of dealer in 15 minutes.
ah there you go. Sounds very specific to his situation
Interestingly I drove the JHM car that was the first B67 S4 to do this (they test everything on their own cars) and they echoed some of the same concerns as Jimmy. That is evident in that the car no longer has the diesel 6th and has a standard transmission gear set currently.
Gents, I’ll write it again. I’m on the road. Took delivery of car last Friday, rained all day Sat. and left on road trip Sun. Saki, I have a Vagcom at home, not with me. I’ll get pictures on here when I get home. I’m visiting a 92 year old uncle, pictures not my top priority. CT weather sucks. Thanks for your patience.
Ever since I went to an iPhone 6 I’ve had problems uploading pictures to my desk top. Now I’m on an Apple Mac and don’t even know how to do it. I’ll take a couple today and e-mail them to anyone willing to post them How’s that? In fact I just sent you a test e-mail, you’ll have some pictures within the hour…OK?
Daytona grey, thanks. Fortunately those curbs are low but have already scraped the under nose twice. Good news is car has front sensors so I’m learning.
desktop? just get a photobucket app on your phone, and upload them there. When you are in the app, click the photo and they have a little thing for the forum link code. You just click it and it automatically copies, and you can post it in the thread with the img tags already on it.
we’re just breaking your balls. Daytona Grey RS5s are heaven sent, so everyone wants to see it.
