New S6 Owner + Manifold flap stuck

Hey All

Thought I’d sign up here as it seems to be one of the only places with an active S6 board.

I’m in the UK and recently bought an S6 Avant (pretty sure you didn’t get these in the states?).

Awesome car and completely different to my last one - I previously had a fully built mazdaspeed 6 making around 450 bhp at the flywheel. So from 2.3 turbo 4 to an all motor V10 has been a refreshing change.

Car seems reasonably well spec’d with front and rear heated seats, heated steering wheel, Bluetooth, drivers & passengers memory, electric column, privacy glass. It’s currently in 88k miles

Anyway - all has been good until this weekend; I’ve got what seems to be the common intake manifold runner stuck fault.
Car is booked in to be looked at and is still under warranty so we will see how that goes…

I see rumours of a JMF redesigned manifold - is this out yet?

Some gratuitous pictures of the old bus;

Station wagon with a V10. Typical American would not believe his eyes.
JHM manifold is the same as you buy from any Audi dealer

Great looking car. I don’t love the wagon but its always fun to see how they look.

JHM should be shipping out the newest versions of the intake manifolds. One of the reasons its suggested you get the intake from JHM is that they are not a parts warehouse so you won’t be getting a non updated version of the intake.

Since he’s closer to HQ, wouldn’t it be wiser to order the part straight from Audi AG in Germany?

Ah ok - will just try to grab an updated one then if it’s needed. Will find out when it goes into the garage in two days!

I know the rep station wagons have in the US so not surprised most of you prefer the saloon! It’s interesting as here in the UK it’s the other way around - it’s also reflected in the price, with the Avant’s commanding a premium over the saloons.

also jealous of the missing orange side marker light in the bumper… need a euro spec front bumper!

Also wanted to S6 swap a C6 wagon… just waaaaaaaaaaay too much work.

Just have to wait til 2022 when the C6 RS6 is 15 yrs old and legal for import to Canada!

Love the wagon btw. mucho jealous of it.

Update - took it in to have the manifold code looked at.

Initial diagnosis is that the circle holding the metal rod between the motor and runner flap has come off and the rod is hanging loose. Moving the flaps manually and they all feel fine though which is a good sign.

Next step is for the Intake Manifold to come off, check the condition of the runners and get it all re-attached.

Another code pinged up on their VCDS - looks like an engine mount is on the way out too.

Good idea to look inside the intake to make sure that the runner drive arm didn’t come off due to something binding up on the inside. I know you said you can move the arms by hand freely but that might only be possible because something on the inside broke when the arm broke.

ITs common to have actuator pieces break and find there way into the cylinder head runners so do a deep inspection.

Update - car went in and had the manifold removed and checked out. I got them to do a full carbon clean at the same time and all is back together now. It’s feeling a lot more powerful and the low down torque is back to what it should be.

that’s great to hear. its always helpful to see what the carbon looked like before they cleaned it but if the intake was broken your going to see a nice jump there.
