New Tires - Michelin Pilot Super Sport 255.35.19 96Y

needed new tires (badly) for my RS4 so I bought the Michelin PSS. So far so good. I have about 20 kms on them so far lol.

They look good, and look pretty fat actually for 255. I was going to get 275.30.19 which would be 25.5" tall (vs stockers at 26.0" tall) but at the last second went OEM sized so as not to exacerbate the already present OEM wheel gap. I don’t anticipate switching up my suspension any time soon, so figured this would be a better option. 0.25" is all it would add, gap wise, but that’s still significant. On the other hand, it would have lowered the car by 0.25" to the ground as well.

Need an alignment pronto. My old tires had some really funky wear paterns in them. The inside shoulder of my front left was destroyed. Very weird. That’s from one summer of driving (around 5,000 miles) with improper alignment specs. It’s worth the $100 or whatever it is to ensure you don’t ruin your $1500 tires!

Time now to throw on the 10mm MTM spacers.

p.s. for Canadian/GTA guys, I went to a few sources for the tires to see the best deal. Prices are installed/taxes in (but not including an alignment).

Audi dealer 1 - $2350
Audi dealer 2 - $2150
Local tire place 1 - $1950
Local tire place 2 (Tires23) - $1560

I also looked at Tire Rack. Getting them shipped to Niagara Falls, driving there, getting them installed, then driving back over the border without declaring them would cost, with cost of gas/travel/shipping from TireRack etc. was $1420…so only $140 cheaper than buying from Tires23. Further, if I declared the tires at the border and just paid HST on them, that $140 savings would have been eclipsed.

I have never found a local place to buy tires that made it compelling for me to just go there rather than do the Tire Rack border job…but Tires23 was incredible.

I hear you on the alignment eating tires. I totally pooched a pair of fronts last year, wore them right down to the cords on the inside edges.

Nice tires Saki! Those Michelin Super Sports are meaty tires and I can’t wait to start abusing mine.

My A6 was very similar. The previous owner never checked his alignment or did a tire rotation/balance. So I knew the front tires were worn when I got it. Thus recently I came out to drive my car and the left front tire was flat because it leaked out past the cords. The sad part is I have put enough miles on the new tires in a few weeks for another tire balance and alignment.

Nice tires and good work!

You’re not alone with the front driver side issue. I continue to have issues with this and have had similar issues others have mentioned (flat tire due to inner wear exposing the chords)

I have them on my 18 wheels in 265/35/18 and love them. I ran them at Watkins they were nice. Especially coming off of my hankook (pos) v12 from the street.

when you guys had problems with your front driver’s side, did you have any shaking?

I thought one of my wheels was out of balanced so I took it to get road force balanced, but it was the alignment + the tire was missing a HUGE amount of material on the inside shoulder…and not evenly all the way around. They couldn’t balance it out it was so bad.

even better prices than simply tire?

I need some winters… i may have to look these folks up!

Not sure…check. I bet five bucks on these guys.

I never got the impression simply was cheap

Nice tires – I’ll most likely go with these when my v12s die. I think might make the leap to 275s though.

BTW, please watch it with the hydrocarbon-based tire shine! Not only does it get everything greasy and trap dirt, it may actually wear your sidewall a bit quicker (has to do with the tire compounds responsible for fighting ozone). Try a water-based product instead. They are usually milky-white rather than thick gels.

I have never found Simply Tires cheap. They just made the most noise on AZ. I’ve also had good experiences on getting tires shipped to me from tire23 - they’re cheap, no doubt.

Another good company is http://www.tiretrends.com/ContactUs.php3 Yeah they’re out in BC but they’re pretty good, super helpful customer service by phone/email and also cheap cheap. They’ve also never sent me old tires, always recent manufacture dates. I picked up two sets of Hankook i-Pikes for the two S4’s for under $1000 all in shipped to my door.

I always price out the all-in price with tirerack and discount tire in the US as I’m only an hour from Port Huron but it’s never been cheaper than the “to my door” tire23/tiretrends price.

You mean imported to your door or to port Huron then sneak across the border price?

What are the two S4 s? And what are ipikes?

P.S. It is getting nice and cold…can you bump your dragstrip thread? George wants to come in his new M3. Maybe we will get his brother to come too in the Misano Red RS4 sans JHM exhaust (has piggies and Hpipe)

^ how are the temps up there? It was 90 today…

it is 14 Celsius outside right now…that is about 57.2 fahrenheit. Ballpark.

Nice Saki. I just got my PSS a few weeks ago and love them. Quiet on the highway and no more squealing in the corners.

I had my drivers side inner tire wear right to the cords as well. I’m lowered, but the driver’s side was considerably worse than the passenger side. I’ll be aligning every year from now on (got adjustable upper CAs as well)

One 2005 and one 1994

Bumped the Cayuga thread for you.

Oh Utah totally forgot about that thing. Is it a turbo two two?

Best tires i have ever owned! I have the 265/30/19s Great price you picked them up for as well!

Just checked…DA is-400 right now actually thus morning
