New toy...4 wheels but not street legal

Well I hope to have an exciting thread about my RS4 soon, but for the time being I will have to share a picture of one of my newest toys that was delivered this past Friday.

We built a house, finally moved in and with that comes the homeowner experience once again. I can say though that this machine is going to make cutting the grass more fun than an actual chore. When we moved North over a year ago I sold my riding mower, it was a pretty nice 54" Craftsman that gave me 7 good years of service cutting a little over 2 acres each time I pulled it out. I decided I didn’t want it to sit in storage while we rented (lawn service included) for a year or two and I wouldn’t hesitate to make that same decision again.

I knew I wanted a zero turn after having a tractor for the last house, but I didn’t have much experience with them. So I went and tried one out…it was a lap bar version with no steering wheel but it was great. I waited a week or two before going into a Cub Cadet dealer to place my order and started looking at reviews of the steering wheel version. When I finally went in I asked about the difference the salesman did a great job at explaining the difference.

The Lap bar version is basically steered and driven by the rear wheel only (common zero turn), the front wheels are just on a swivel and can do whatever they want. These are great for flat yards, but my yard is not flat and that was concerning. The salesman said if you are on the side of a hill and the mower decides to turn down the hill it can be very hard to control. So he began to explain the steering wheel version, which actually has steering linkage that controls the front wheels and also linkage that goes back to the rear wheel motors to basically give you a four wheel steering setup with zero turn capability. This mower can also be driven on almost any hill and it was handled my property with ease.

I am extremely happy with my choice and for anyone interested in a purchase like this I hope I can give you some feedback.
