New/Used Engine C6 S6

Anyone know of anyplace I may be able to find a good condition V10?

My car may be making its way to a scrapyard without one…

Sorry to hear that. Can you explain?

Where are you located? Search car-part.com it shows engines ranging from $4000-7300. A new one from audi is $12,000

I just checked the website cstarky15 suggested, there are lots of used motors available there. Sounds like you can get what you need for around $5k, which is actually a much lower number than I expected. Plus shipping and labor obviously. The labor is probably at least 20 hours, but I don’t really know for sure. What’s going on with your motor that you think you need a new one? Cylinder walls messed up or something?

Where can you find a new engine for that price, if you don’t mind me asking?

And yeah… Car went in for a cold start misfire, again. Oil in spark plug tubes, again… Had valve covers & gaskets replaced in January. Seems to be caused by the cam bridges, which require an engine-out repair. Dealership ran compression tests, came back low. Warranty won’t cover the $30,000 bill (labour inclusive) for a new engine. But that’s with a $24,000ish engine cost.

I’m in Vancouver, BC. Prices I’ve listed are Canadian. Car only has 79,538km…

Genuineaudiparts.com has a long block for $17186, short for $12,880.

What exactly will the warranty cover, if not a new engine? Are they willing to buy you a used one then? Or a new one but only if it’s less than a certain price? It seems to me that it should be THEIR problem to find the most inexpensive way to fix the car, shouldn’t it? I mean, a warranty is insurance. You paid them cash for the insurance that if anything went wrong, they would do what it takes to fix it. So now that something has gone wrong, I don’t understand how they can decide that it’s too expensive for them to fix. I’d be demanding a new engine, or at the very least a full refund of my warranty fees since the warranty is apparently worthless and non-binding. Hopefully it doesn’t get that ugly - keep us posted

Dollar limit on the policy. After some smaller repairs I’ve had done over the last 2 years, only $17,000 left (roughly). I was not made aware of this limit at time of purchase, or I wouldn’t have spent the money on it… Such a load of shit. And because it was sold through the dealership and is considered an “Audi Aftercare” product, even though it’s a third party warranty when it comes down to it, they won’t have anything to do with a used engine. Considering my options on my own now, but it may end up in a scrapyard, by the looks of things…

Short block doesn’t seem like a viable option sadly, due to the top end oil leak issues. Would end up running the same as a long block most likely after parts & labour.

So the warranty is an “all or nothing” type deal? Meaning, if your “leftover” balance falls just short of covering your needed repair, they won’t even pay for ANY of it? Seems to me like they should pay up to the full max-payment and just have you cover the remaining balance. Maybe you can find an independent shop that’s willing to work with you to make that happen?

Independent shop is out of the question. Has to be done at a dealership for the warranty company to authorize anything. “Audi Aftercare” product thing.

They WILL cover up to their max dollar amount. But that leaves me $13,000 short of the estimated bill. I can’t justify putting $13,000 into a car they claim is only worth $22,000 (black book). Waiting on numbers and further options at this point, to see what will happen exactly.

Ouch. Ya I understand your dilemma better now. $13k is certainly a lot of money to spend just to get the car running without even getting any performance upgrades. I guess the question is, if you ditch the car now, as-is, how much money are you out? That number might be close to the same amount, I don’t know. Crappy situation. Hopefully you can find the problem(s) and fix them without needing a full engine swap.

It’s almost worth buying a salvage-title S6 for ~$10k, swap your bad motor into it and take its good motor, then sell the salvage one with the now-bad motor for, say, $5k. Then you’re only out $5k plus labor charges. Those are total guesstimate numers and may not me a feasible plan, but might be worth looking into anyways.

Here’s an auction for a Salvage 2011 S6: https://erepairables.com/salvage-cars-auction/cars/audi/s6/2011-audi-s6-17658194

It doesn’t say what condition the motor is in, says the car was totalled due to “water” damage, but that it starts and runs.

Can normal people off the street buy those cars. I have seen a few of those before but is it even possible to get one without a licence.

Also thats a tough call getting a used car in that condition. You would almost want to see if it really runs or just starts and runs like crap.

So far I’ve found a place that offered to test an engine in a running vehicle, and send it to me for $8,000 CAN, shipping included. Still a waiting game to get numbers from the dealership & warranty company at this point to see what I’ll have to end up doing.

Who is your warranty company i had my new engine and tranny replaced under warranty about a year ago total was $34,000. It was covered but they dropped me afterwards.

I’m in Canada, so likely not the same. Still dealing with it, will post up what happens pending the outcome.

Your located in canada correct. Where about

Vancouver, BC.

Um, what warranty is that and how can I get one? lol
