Noobie needs a little direction

So i got my first audi today and i bought it with some problems. I knew that it had the yellow oil sensor light on. I looked around the best i could on the site about it with no luck thats why i posting. I went to the local VW dealer and told him that i needed a oil sensor. I told him that the yellow light was on so we asked a tech what sensor to order. We ended up with 1j0-907-660-b i hope this is it. Well besides that i think the guy i got it from killed the codes because i got it home and it started to misfire very bad i have light access to a snap on scanner that has a VAG module. I got random multiple misfire and system to lean! so i looked at the vacuum lines seen a few that are cracked. I replaced them and found one into the intake that was chewed up so i fixed it and then broke the check valve! Now it runs fine but check engine light still same codes. attached to the intake is a large disc that looks like it comes off the valve covers and it’s hissing a lot. If I put my finger on the disc, it will stop then when I lift off it lets a ton of air out. I talked to a few audi tech and they said they never seen them go bad.

So long post short did i get the right part. Should I change the millennium falcon looking disc off the intake? Does it allay hiss?

I have a 2002 Audi A4 3.0 Quattro auto with about 116k on it

thanks

Can You get a good PIC of it so we can see exactly what hose?

its this disc thingy. well i hope that it what is wrong with my check engine light it makes a loud hiss.

the millennium falcon there is your PCV valve, it shouldn’t hiss. It’s attached to vacuum on one side and the crankcase on the other, if it isn’t sealed you’ll have a vacuum leak.

I’d replace it, link below will take you to one but the price is very high. You should be able to get them for more around $60

Here is a whole refresh kit

lol millennium falcon

awesome

I like the idea of the refresh kit. I will look around and find one. What about the oil sensor unit any ideas?

I’d double check that the oil level is actually fine and replace it (3 bolts and a plug, very easy but you’ll need to drain the oil).

Not much else can go wrong there; you could trace the wires if you have a wiring diagram and ensure there is continuity from the sensor plug to the ecu plug to make sure its not that (unlikely it would be unless you observe damage under the car/in the engine bay)

+karma just for the description as the millennium falcon, that’s a new one.

Sounds like you’re on the right track for getting the car fixed, but it sucks you got sold a car with a handful of problems they didn’t disclose to you. Sounds like they cleared the codes before you came to see it.

yeah, thats what I’m thinking. I contacted the guy i got the car from and he said he changed the oil. He used some penzoil that he cant remember the weight or the type. Could that have set off the sensor? I would think that car is picky about the oil used and have done some slight reading on it. Do you think i should be worried?

The level sensor went bad on my 3.0. Pretty sure it’s a common issue.

The vacuum lines right in front of the intake manifold are known to fail. Get a bunch of silicone vacuum line at napa and replace everything.

so i changed the oil, oil sensor. light went off. Changed the pcv no check engine light and runs amazing no hiss. It kind of sounds like a duck now. I think i got a cheep PCV so I’m going to wait to order the oem one. thanks for the help.

Ughh now the car stinks like burning oil!!! I looked it was coming from the valve cover gasket on the driver side. Or could it be a cam shaft seal?

Could be either or, I have heard that this motor is prone to leaking from those 2 spots. I don’t know because I’ve never had mine leak and they were replaced anyway when the timing belt was done about 25k ago. Sorry I couldn’t be of much help maybe somebody with this issue can chime in.

Either way if you need to redo your seals you should look up blauparts valve cover kit here: http://www.blauparts.com/proddetail.asp?prod=GF23105 . I bought my timing belt kit from them which included these seals and haven’t encountered a leak yet.

In any situation if the Timing Belt hasnt been done yet you may just want to go and get the timing belt kit which includes the gaskets for the valve covers and cam’s, you can find that here: http://www.blauparts.com/proddetail.asp?prod=GH21119-1A

Also, this is the cheapest place I have found the PCV (Part # 06C103245) : http://www.autohausaz.com/search/product.aspx?sid=iegdrp45yyis2gajsko1kbui&partnumber=06C103245

That’s where I will be picking mine up when I get around to replacing it. However you also may want to consider replacing the entire shebang, look here: http://jhmotorsports.com/shop/catalog/breather-hose-and-pcv-replacement-kit-jhm-for-b6-a4-with-30l-v6-p-956.html

i bought valve cover gaskets for it. They don’t look hard to do I’m going to start there i see a lot of oil poring out of both from the back of the motor on both sides. Where are the cam seals? are they covered by the timing covers?

Degrease the entire motor if you can. The valve covers leak on the 4.2 like crazy I would emagine its the same with the 3.0

I haven’t had any valve cover leaks.
