At the title suggest I’m in the NYC area and having a hard time finding a decent Audi mechanic.
Anyone here familiar with the area enough to suggest a mechanic?
What all work do you need done. the NYC and jersey area is really hard to find a good honest knowledgeable mechanic. I have heard horror storys about guys getting ripped off out there. I think depending on the work you need there are several good shops but they might be limited as to there ability to do work.
I am in northern NJ, I have used Eurotech in Mahwah and RSW in Green Brook. I had issues with both. Feel free to PM me with any questions, I can give you more details on my experiences with them.
I recently found Drive Auto Works in Mountainside, I’ve only had oil change done there, wanted to check the place out, I was very happy with what I saw and heard. Currently waiting for JHM exhaust to be delivered there for installation. I’m also going to have them do some other work with the exhaust install, I’ll post when I get the work done.
I think I’m about to develop my own horror story.
Things I need to do at the bare minimum:
- Find and correct an aggressive oil leak.
Carbon Clean
Install Intake spacer and replace pcv valve
Half my motor is misfiring so troubleshoot that to determine if it’s a vac leak or I need to replace fuel injectors due to carbon build up.
oh man that’s a big important list. Oil leaks can be in such difficult spots as the oil pan and you need to be a proficient shop to do that well. I think no matter what if your pulling the intake to do the carbon clean it would be smart to catch the injectors as almost EVERYONE has injector issues.

so i ended up going with a JHM authorized dealer named Drive Auto Works in Clifton NJ.
The car has been there for a week and a half now and so far the customer service has been great.
They’re doing the following:
- Water Pump
Oil Level Sensor
JHM Light weight Pulley
Carbon clean
JHM Intake Spacers
PCV Valve
JHM Block off plate kit For SAI
JHM Oil Separator Heater Bypass
JHM Tune
That sound similar, I think you will love that maint and mods, from what I hear at least.

Update:Car’s been done for over a week except for the JHM tune.
Apparently there is an issue with the login information from JHM and the local shop (JHM Authorized Dealer) can’t get the files from them.
Anyone ever had this issue?
I did mine at home, and it’s been a while, I do remember a few steps to setup the login, one was a VPN connection. I’m not sure where they were having the problem, I do know there needs to be a VPN connection before you get to the server login to download the file. I hope that helps, sucks to see you weren’t able to get the tune, it’s a game changer.
That sounds odd. I too have flashed at home and didn’t have any issues. I have flashed quite a few times.
Well the shop say they can’t download the file from JHM. They’ve been trying for over a week. JHM sent instructions to them but after following each step they can’t access the file. I hope they’re not yanking my chain. I want to call JHM but the shop ordered the tune I have no info.
What they are telling you makes no sense. If they have internet they have the JHM tune. I would absolutely call JHM. Ask to talk to Dru. They don’t have to down load anything if they are a JHM dealer and have flashed in the past all they do is hook up to your car and the rest is mostly automatic. And like I said if they have internet then they have everything they need.
I would call and just say the name of the dealer and what you have going on. JHM is really really good when it comes to giving customer service.
