OEM brake line removal issues

So I have attempted to install my new stainless lines but the OEM brake lines are fairly corroded near the hardline (by the bracket) in fact the brake line retaining springs had rotted away completely, the brackets look really bad as well.

I tried to remove the OEM lines but I can’t get it detached from the hardline (mostly because no wrench fits at all). I am not sure what wrench sizing it was supposed to be, or if there is there a special tool, because the nut appears to be round… advice?

Cheers

If I remember correctly it should be an 11mm open ended wrench you need to do this. Maybe 13mm but pretty sure it’s 11. Mine were really rusted too when I changed mine so I hit them with some WD-40 before attempting to remove them.

You’re turning this nut on the line on the left in this picture right? Hopefully it wasn’t stripped.

This.

I think you are right it is an 11mm, I was told by an Audi tech that these are really prone to rounding and to use the 11mm flare wrench to get it off (if I can)

I have hit this thing with PB, seafoam deep creep and WD 40… it is still a mess. I took a carbon brush to it and so much stuff came off I couldn’t tell if it was dirt or corroded material.

Here is what I am dealing with.

Wow OK I’m going to break This to you gently. That looks like shit.

Clean it off as much as you can. Really get in there and break off as much rust as you can. With it in that bad of shape you are going to want to really think about getting a break line wrench. A box wrench on something that bad just might make it worse.

I don’t think I have seen any that bad before

Yeah I’ve never seen anything like that. I thought mine were bad.

By the way, who knows what’s up with the way the hard line is routed. Looks kinda goofy, almost like it was bent on accident.

Yeah mine is really bad! Here in NS they use copious amounts of road salt during winter.

At least you can tell yours was a nut, I started thinking something was wrong and I had some of one of a kind audi brake fitting that required a special tool. It is so corroded the 11mm is loose on it.

I think I am going to have to replace the entire god damn hard line. Why can’t things ever just be easy with this car?

Try standard or a 10 mm that should help. You don’t want to change that line it’s not fun

Thanks for the advice, I looked it up in the Bentley and there is no description/instructions for replacement… from what I can tell, at the min I would have to remove the subframe.
