Oil Filter Housing O ring question,

As I have noted in some other posts my new 2007 S8 with 97K miles is leaking oil, this weekend I will be stripping the IM off to try and track it down. It is leaking off the bottom of the oil pan and the front of the engine is gunged up to looks like it was leaking from there for some time.

After reading many posts I was sort of convincing myself that the main culprit was the Oil filter housing O ring. But as I looked through the old service records I see that those o’rings were on a repair order 18 months ago at 57k miles.

This was a piss me off moment, as I doubt they fail in less than 2 years and 40k, anyone had to replace them more than once?

You do see issues where the installs of the O rings were not that great and they leaked soon after so that is possible.

There is a leak hole that you can clean and inspect. The hole is at the top of the block valley. look on the driver side of the crank pulley about 4 inches over and obviously up. look for that hole and stick a screwdriver in there. If there is standing oil you should see it.

regardless of what past maintenance says. I would suggest pulling the intake anyway to look at the carbon condition and inspect the intake flaps
