Oil leak from Cam "carrier" part of the head

So I have had a couple of oil leaks on the S6, the leaks never pooled oil under the car, it would smoke post shut down - that smoke and burnt oil smell came from the back left of the engine - in the v part.
First was the O rings underneath the Oil filter housing - we replaced these and the Cam sensor O rings as they had signs of weeping. When the leak/thomas the tank engine smoke returned I assumed the O ring had not sealed correctly… The guys noticed some weeping from a rocker cover so did the gasket but alas smoke was still there. They have dug deeper and see that oil is coming from the back of the motor where the Cam gears are, mechanic described it as the cam carrier, which is under the rocker covers where the cams sit…this is a new concept part for me as most motors i have worked on the cams sit directly on a line bored head. This area houses the adjustable cam gears and is sealed by a sealant (no gasket) it of course is at the back of the motor so is a prick to get anywhere near.

Anyone seen this before or had to address issues in there??..it could even be a motor lift… SIGH!!!
