oil leak n my s6

hey guys i originally thought my oil leak was coming from the oil pan gasket so i had it replaced now it is still leaking. someone told me it could be from the oil cooler gasket but i still see oil residue around the oil pan gasket.

how difficult is it to change the oil cooler gasket and any ideas where else it could be coming from.

thanks i will post pics when i get them

From my small experience of the V10 it’s difficult to work out exactly where the leak is from without pulling the front end off or the manifold off. I had a leak but it seemed to be coming from the crankcase gasket and somewhere from the back. It turned out to be the O ring at the base of the oil filter housing, but I could only know that by pulling the manifold.

Does it drip if you leave the engine running? Have you looked underneath on your drive or had it up on lamps and had a good inspection?

If you can get some pics that would really help with us getting you some direction. The usual spots would be like Cj said. The o ring at the base of the oil filter is one that leaks on most cars. Add in a possible leaky valve cover gasket and that might be the combination that is leading to this.

Here pat this should show you the area Im taking about. This is a big issue with all the V10 cars. It was also an issue to a lessor amount on the S4. The intake spacers help keep the heat down that might be part of killing the O rings. Look into getting some of those. You can get them from JHM.

This is after the oil was soaked up and cleaned out. You can see some of the spots where it was wiped down and stll there was tons of oil sludge left

We should probably start a oil leak thread to show all the usual spots. If you end up finding the leak is from somewhere else. Let us know.

Exactly what Justin said…

You can pin point the leak from the valley by removing the front undertray and jacking the rear of the car up.

The oil will flow out the front of the engine.

What happens is the V of the motor fills up with oil over time, then depending on how your car is parked it seems like it’s leaking intermittingly.
