Oil Leak under car

Hi guys.
I was wondering if there are any common reasons for any oil leaks.

I’m convinced mine has an oil Leak underneath. I noticed oil a while back now but thought it could have been from previous cars however I had a good look today and it just seems too fresh. I’ve put some rag under tonight just to confirm its leaking.

I don’t have the plastic undertray part under the car so it’s easy to see but from a quick glance all looks dry around oil pan. Something tells me it might be a gasket or something somewhere.

I don’t seem to use anymore oil than what Audi state it would use (1ltr approx every 1500miles) I know it varies alot but I would have thought I’d be topping it up more often with a leak.

Hopefully it’s not too major as really don’t want a set back with this.

Just wondered if anyone else has had any issues with oil leaks.

I suppose good news is it’s not burning oil at least

Defo leaking oil seems quite alot too in not alot of time. So seems to be getting worse.

I’m pretty convinced it’s the plug not tight enough upon further inspection. I did recently have a service and I don’t think it was tightened enough as it’s been worse since and I’m thinking maybe garage before also did not do tight enough. Am I just wishful thinking here.

I checked round oil filter and everything seems dry. Abit of oil is further back but it looks like this is just where it’s blown when I’m driving

Just don’t over tighten the plug. Maybe they reused the old crush washer instead of placing a new one on there.

Yes they defo never put a new one on there. You think it’s a case of new plug

Cars booked in on Friday oil change and new plug washer to be fitted. I’ll actually be happy if this fixes the issue which all seems to point towards that been my problem. In future I’ll be making it very clear at services they change that washer

I bet they didn’t use a crush washer and used a Cooper one !! 100% as ive heard of this a lot and had this myself before !

This I’m also convinced. I had a good look and wipe yesterday in light and it’s defo coming from the plug.

I’ll let you know Friday, I’ll be telling the garage make sure its right as I’m not paying for oil everytime we need to keep messing about.

Tbh I was unaware of the crush washer till having this issue and Google and forums seemed to all point to this

I had this when I first got my car it had a Cooper washer not a crush washer fitted and leaked just like yours. I’ve pointed this out to a few people now and all had the wrong washer fitted!

I can see alot of people easy paying for all sorts before realising it’s just a washer. I was determined to not let garage try charge me loads for stuff I don’t need. I told them it quite clearly coming from plug

+1 on the copper crap. My 335i always had a copper washer that came with the new filter and sealed like a charm. Not the case with the Audi. They absolutely need the aluminum crush washer. Good luck!

Thanks guys, so ready for result haha

Oil leak fixed and it did still have the crush washer on so we can only presume other garage used same washer.
So to celebrate I’ve ordered some K&N filters.
I looked at BMC but on their website they no longer deliver to UK.

Downpipes next hopefully in a few weeks
