Ol Girl decided to make a new noise :(

Hey y’all, so unfortunately I haven’t figured out the click in my suspension because I’ve been so busy but because it hasn’t affected my driving and isn’t too loud, it’s not my biggest concern.

However, as I was driving home from dinner the other night, I noticed a whining sound that was coming from the engine. It doesn’t seem to change with rpm at all. Just a constant whine. I’ve experienced PS pump whine before when the fluid was too low but this doesn’t quite sound like that I don’t think. Regardless I checked every fluid in the car and everything is at a perfect level so I don’t know what could be causing it.

My next thought was that it was the ac compressor but the thing is that there’s no *clicking sound that comes with it and it doesn’t vary with rpm. Additionally, the econ light hasn’t come on and the ac still blows just as frosty as ever.

Here’s a link to a video I took. Sorry for the quality, I didn’t really know what I was looking for. https://youtu.be/g5IrfUslHBI

Just to add. The noise doesn’t appear after cold start. I thought I was good but it started to come back after about a mile or so of driving. At first its a pulsating whine and then it becomes constant.

Anyone ever experienced this? Any ideas?

not changing with rpm is a good thing. To me it sounded like a fan noise but its always hard to hear exactly what you want people to hear in videos.

Could be possible that its a vac leak but usually they are constant.

Any work done recently on the car. Any codes at all

I have experienced this before. Sounds like an air leak. Check all the fittings and hoses around the intake manifold. Then check that the intake manifold bolts are tight.

This pissed me off for a while until I figured out that my boost tap hose on the front of the intake manifold wasn’t attached. At first start up there was no noise and then after driving a mile or so it would start whining. I didn’t make it far enough for it to be constant.

Thanks guys! I’ll take a look at the manifold later this afternoon. That seems like a very plausible cause although no work has been done in the engine bay recently. I hope for my sake that that’s the case. On AZ a few people said it might be my PCV but I’ve never heard a bad PCV on our cars make a noise like that and I have no idea why it would.

Well butter my biscuits and call me Nancy. I think we have a culprit y’all!

nice job that should be an easy fix.
