P0089 code

Hi everyone, it’s been awhile…Happy New Year…!
Wonder if you’ll can educate me a little more…? Tested the car a couple of nights ago with an old 1st Gen G-Tech, the little one that looks like a radar detector, for comparisons and supplemented it with dashcommand tried to get some kind of reference numbers. Reason being I switched from eurocode intake to roc-euro. While doing some launches 0-60 and 1/4 mile or two, CEL came on so I ran a scan and the fuel pressure performance code showed up. Although the intake UPGRADE showed performance improvement, I’m concerned with the CEL I don’t want the engine starving of fuel and blowing it up with only 16k on the clock. Would the extra air and car adjusting have anything to do with this? Read up on it a little on the other forum but I’m not confident with them as I am with AR…thanks.
P.S. I know I need to get a vag cable and learn how to use it.

Many people have intakes and no CELs, I say your problem is something else.

Any ideas? Hpfp, lpfp, bad censor, etc…? This is the second time first one happened while testing again, actually, when it showed up the last time the car spun hard during takeoff (no LC used) and the light popped up. I cleared it and didn’t think anything of it and now again 3 months later. PS. HOW DO YOU QOUTE SOMEONE on here I think I pissed someone off last time, although it wasn’t intentional, lol. I tried to qoute you, but it shows my original post. ;D

Your right to be concerned about the code. Running out of fuel is a bad thing. I remember seeing a few guys getting that code and having it be a HPFP for the B8 guys. I would start by doing the normal maintenance stuff depending on your mileage.

Fuel filter is a good place to start.

The key would be to find out if this code is temp related performance related or just a failure. In the end your getting a fuel code and that’s not something you want to mess with. How often do you drive aggressively.

I think Primetime could tell you all the fueling blocks to check. You should be able to log the requested fuel pressure and see what’s happening wot

Only 16k on the OD. Still under warranty but fearing TD1 if I scan the car at the dealer. Don’t have a cable so I might have to talk to Kai “My Tuner” about it. I’m an aggressive driver but I stay on top of all my maintenance etc. Thanks for the input.

There is a thread here about atleast one guy having issues with his HPFP. Have your tuner help you log the car. But when you do make sure they are a few back to back to back. The pumps generally show signs of failure on repeated runs vs The single run.

Yes that’s when this happens after a couple of back to back runs. Will do!

Made an appointment with Elite for Tuesday, let’s see what comes of it. I’ll keep you posted.

Obviously you would like to never have any issues but if it’s consistent like that and happens after back to back runs it should not be to hard to track down and fix. I would be surprised if the car wasn’t a little faster after you fix it. That would be cool of you could update the tread with what they find. From your searching it looks like these kinds of things on the bus are a hpfp issue even tho the symptoms would point to a in tank pump issue.

Isn’t that the truth. The problem has not be constant only twice in the last three months and I’ve done numerous runs , hhhhm… When I ran the car at the track I got a best of 12.86 at 106.5 but the DA’s were high and as some others said in numerous posts that the dsg short shifts in the b8.5’s… I’m content with that for the time being and understand what’s happening. As you said finding out what’s going on with the engine parameters by getting this thing logged could help unleash some more more etc. We’ll see I’m confident with the people I deal with otherwise I wouldn’t deal with them. Meantime looking into Rosstech for cable or their new HEX wifi setup if anyone has experience with the second let me know or give me a heads up on the what cable program to purchase for a MacBook Pro. I want to have some clue of what’s going on with my car in a bad way…lol. I’m sure some of the experts on AR will interpret what I can’t figure out which will be most of it…

Set up the Data Grid and did some preliminary logging yesterday driving a around town, mixed driving some WO for a gear or two. Would anyone be able to look at them until I get the official ones done with a Vag-com. I can email the files in csv. (Spreadsheet file) form. Let me know please thanks.

Thanks for the heads up… So far no issues they’ve great with me but one never knows. I’ll keep my eyes wide open…!

What blocks did you log. I cam help look them over but I’m not a b8 expert like so many others here.

Engine rpm
Mass air flow
Timing advance
% short term fuel trim Bank 1
% short term fuel trim bank 2
% long term fuel trim
Commanded air/fuel ratio
Fuel rail pressure
Lambda fuel/air commanded
Barometric pressure
Ambient air dentsity
max fuel flow
Oxygen sensor voltage bank 1 & 2
Engine coolant temp
Catalyst temperature bank 1 & 2
Can I email the logs to you they’re in .csv format…?

Oh yea, I can’t get boost, Vaccum or IAT because the application I have NOW does not support these PID’s for our platform.
