I am confused, how can an extra engine be bad insurance? If I need it, that is great, if I don’t I can get my money back on it easily. ???
As for the PES, I am well aware of the past, I did do my research. I had talked to VWRCER who has been running one for quite awhile with pretty decent results. I figured if I got similar results for the money I have into it I would be pretty happy.
JHM has no interest in tuning (big surprise?) But Jeff at United Motorsports, working through a local dealer has confidence. If all fails, I am out some money. It is just the nature of the game.
VWRCER is far from typical and his car is super modded. He has make the kit more sucuessful by basically changing most of the things in the kit… If Im not mistaken he has done damage to his motor with the PES kit…HE has mot time in the kit then PES but he still waves the flag for PES even tho a pretty much stock automatic car with the JHM kit is faster.
You havent done your research because not one other then VW has been sucuessful with the kit and THEY ALL HAVE HAD MOTOR DAMAGE DUE TO THE KIT. The fact that jeff at UM is willing to tune the car is nice for them but that far from makes them interested in anything other then your money. SO your going with Jeff at UM becuase he has confidence…bro…this sounds woerse and worse…
I love hte Blind PES guys who have that it wont happen to me and this isn’t that bad. Bro one pass you can get decent results then its a fucking heat generating monster. Not one person here wants to not see you do well but everyone here can see your one more in the list of WOOOO PES. TweetsS4 was playing that up on AZ. he hasn’t seen shit out of PES either he is a B5 guy that thinkgs 4 blown motors is ok for trying to put a car togher
so let me say this again. Everyone is wanted to see everyone in the b6 comunity do well but you like the 10th guy that thinks this isn’t going to be an issue. We just all want you to know what your getting into and jeff or bill or ben at united motorports isn’t helping you there just makeing somethign that has been known to hurt cars and motors work… its poor research on there parts… JHM and other companys are not going to take money to tune something that is going to do damage or isn’t really making the investment worth your money
someone in Europe just tried this angle I believe…he bought a used PES kit for a fair price, and ran it on his car. Then blew his motor within 6 months.
I am not sure what the cause was but it turned into a bit of a disaster for him
Spiral, are you the guy I referenced on AZ? Safe assumption after your two posts.
Welcome to the site. Keep a close eye on the hardware, and ask Jeff Atwood or whoever tunes it to respect the safety of your motor.
I’ll be honest…I was pretty tough right off the bat on AZ, but most of those members need to be as far away from bad decisions as possible, if one new guy sees you going with PES…it may suddenly seem ok to him and he may lose a lot of money and a car.
I kind of see your POV from a price perspective, but having a spare motor (which aren’t that easy to find or cheap) doesn’t make this endeavor any less expensive if you run into issues. Think about it, if you blow a motor…or have other damage that’s $5000 you wasted, plus the supercharger and tune…~2500??..equaling $7500 and back to square one. My point is why not the JHM kit from that price perspective…be happy and have something reliable?
I wish you the best and hope you have success and are happy with your car in the end.
The guys name on AZ is Kanarchy. He wasn’t happy with the results and wanted the kit to create better numbers. He took it to a shop who through a very small pulley on it causing the M90 to overspin and that shop also performed the tuning on it. He hired an attorney and won a lawsuit against the tuner. It was a combination of excessively RPM of the M90 and very poor tuning that caused his issues.
The reason i am working I decide to work with Jeff at United has a lot to do with his experience with VWRCER’s car. I have had no experience with the PES tune but I talked to one of PES’s major installers and they told me that they have developed a tune through other sources for the kits due to their lack of confidence in PESs ability to tune a car.
I apologize for some of the ambiguity in this response. I don’t want to call out any names, it is not my intentions.
As for the 112 that on the rs4 did a little better. One of the major down falls of the b6 kits are the intercooling. Adding the bigger 112 didnt do anything for vf when they tried it. Just a small bump I hp but it came with 3x more heat from the blower
VWRCER used the biggest most ridiculous intercooler he could stuff on his car. Which helps but another large variable is the flow rate of the pump, and heat flux of the superchargers internal heat exchanger. Heat pumps are not a super complicated system to design. Unfortunately a lot of companies, let’s use PES for an example, do not have engineers.
No bro your right and vwrcer as I said turned the kit into his own so his results are not typical and your spot on…almost everyone of these companys has a wanta be paper engeeneer on staff. …lets face it even if they are an engeeneer it take more then that…pes is famous for just making something to bolt a blower up to a car and they didnt understand much else…the guys at pes are nice but nice d9sent male them smart… heat with the m90 or 112 is going to be the death of the entire concept. Not enough room for a proper size intercooler and no pump can push enough go pull out the heat add the fsct that the m90 flows so little cfm over a stock 4.2 can cause bigger restraints…
Your in the know…you dont seem to have blinders on…
Ya you really have turned that kit into your own and honestly done a great job. I think your the best example of how to get the most out of that kit. It dosent make the kit earth shattering or anything but maybe pes should take a few pages out of what you did. Didnt you even get ur m90 ported…
Yes i did thats why the boost is only 5psi i could easily bump boost back up to 7psi but its reliable and quick now.Porting is great cooler intake temps and better flow my porter told me id get 30whp and between headers port and good tune did pick up 50whp.I actually posted pics of dyne sheets on AZ when someone asked about differences between headers and downpipes.
