Picked Up My 2008 S6

Thank you to everyone on here who provided advice to me on purchasing a 2008 Audi S6.

I picked it up on Monday. I knew it was nice when I had test drove it but you really don’t get the full impression until you have the car in your possession. This is by far the nicest car I have ever owned. I love everything about it. So smooth and comfortable. Firm yet smooth ride. Torquey engine. Has some nice tech features but not overkill like on a lot of vehicles today.

Couple of quick picture below:

So far the only thing I have done is replace the factory filters with a couple of K&N’s. Will do a carbon cleaning this weekend as well as replace the sparkplugs. The car looks to have new coils so I don’t think I will mess with those (I will just clean the contacts and put in some new di-electric grease). I am going to wait on replacing the injectors as I have already spent a good bit. I am getting the windsheild replaced tomorrow and a 20% tint all around next week. The car has new tires which is great.

Thanks.

Quick update. I was able to fix the adaptive headlight on the passenger side. I had to purchase a used headlight off of ebay. It was not exactly the same; the foglight housing and light were different. I think it may have come from an A6. Fortunately, everything else in the light was the same.

Turned out it was not just the wires for the horizontal motor; the sensor was bad also. So I removed the lenses of the ebay headlight and the one on my car by baking them in an oven at 200 F and carefully prying the lenses off (not as hard to do as I would have thought). I then removed the entire DRL assembly (lense, motor, sensor, wires, pivots, etc.) from the ebay headlight and transplanted it into my headlight. I also coated as many of the wires in the headlight that had cracked or missing insulation with Liquid Electrical Tape. Messy but should keep the light going for a while.

Put everything back together except the lens and tested. Everything works! No errors in VagCOM!

Another quick update.

So far the car is just a pure joy.

Did a bit of cleaning yesterday. Vacuumed the carpet and shampooed areas that looked a little dingy. Carpet came out looking almost new.

Also took off the belly pan today. I will be going to the carwash and cleaning it as it was soaked with oil. The dealership had replaced the oil pan gasket and a rear seal so hopefully that fixed the oil leak. I will still keep an eye on it however. But need a clean belly pan to see if the leak comes back.

I also took off the wheels to thoroughly clean them. I also wanted to inspect the axles and CV boots. Found the front passenger inner boot will need to be replaced.

Funny how that works, eh? My front passenger CV boot needed to be replaced right as I got mine too.

Might as well do the other side. Both of mine were leaking badly.

That is a solid plan. Clean the pan wipe down the block and see whats what. The CV boots are a pain so it make sense to inspect well to make sure you don’t have to do them more than once.

I took each of the wheel off this weekend one at a time and thoroughly cleaned the barrels and nooks and crannies. While each wheel was off, I inspected the brakes, suspension, and axles. The right front inner CV boot was the only problem that I found. I will take care of that this week.

As for the previous oil leak, I don’t think the oil leak was too bad. The gray foam on the inside of the belly pan was saturated with oil but that would have been over the last 10 years. The underside of the body and engine were actually pretty dry and clean and there was no rust to speak of.

I tore off the oil foam and pressure washed the belly pan. I assume the foam is for sound deadening. I will replace it with some stick-on foam.

The car was definitely well maintained over its life. Paint is in great condition. There are few spots that need a little polishing, but nothing major. The tires seem to be relatively new which is great.

I need to replace a few of the interior parts; rear speaker grill, start/stop button, center console latch.

Getting a 20% tint tomorrow which will help with the heat and make the car look much better.

But the next major project I will be doing (hopefully this weekend) is the carbon clean and JHM intake spacers.

If I may, where are you located?

Located in northern Kentucky.

welcome to the platform, there are a lot of really knowledgeable people here so search and then ask when the issues come. Good luck with that beast!

A carbon clean will let you know more when your able to look into the ports and see how everything looks. At that time its a good idea to inspect the intake manifold to see if all of the flaps are working and if any are broken. You can put a mirror down the opening and after you pull the bolts holding on the flap motor you can move the flaps by hand.

The intake spacers are a big life saver. You will notice the difference epically living in a hotter climate. They are good performance and motor insurance.

Consider getting the injectors cleaned or replaced. Injectors are the number 1 cause of misfires and poor running performance.

Definitely will be inspecting everything. I would like to replace the injectors but I will have to hold off for now as I am about tapped out for now from fixing all of the relatively minor issues. So far the engine runs and idles very smooth and VagCom has not detected any misfires so hoping the injectors will be good at least for a little while. And even though it will be double work to later replace the injectors, I prefer to do a little at a time and learn how everything is put together and not bite off more than I can chew.

And I still want to do a trans fluid and filter change and rear diff fluid change. Those are not immediately needed so that will also wait for a while.

Took care of a few minor issues with the car yesterday.

Replaced the sunroof seal; the old one was falling apart.

Replaced some of the fasteners that were missing from the belly pan.

Replaced the broken center armrest latch.

I should receive in the parts today to replace the torn inner CV boot so I will be doing that tomorrow.

And my plan for the weekend is to do the carbon clean and JHM intake spacers.

So more work done. I replaced the inner CV boot. Was quite easy. Did not even have to unbolt any of the suspension.

I did discover that I still have an oil leak coming from the pan. Apparently the apes at the dealership I purchased the car from did not do a very good job sealing the pan. I will re-seal it probably next weekend. This weekend is the carbon clean.

I also had a 20% tint installed all around on the car today. Looks REALLY good. Will definitely help with the summer heat and to preserve the interior from UV. Pics below:
