Plastidip Competitor - Rustoleum FlexiDip

Interesting. Might buy a grey can to try it on a couple of beat up looking centre caps for wheels

At a store here Plastidip was $20 and this was $10.

Good to know

Let us know how it works, that’s a good price.

“stops rust”

… on an aluminum wheel? LOL

Good looking out Saki, there is also this that I saw come across on my facebook feed today:

I have been thinking of doing my car in matte clear, which my buddy did it on his Santorin and it came out amazing, the biggest issue in California is PlastiDip cannot be bought or shipped in the gallon jugs, so I am hoping that with this Eastwood ElastiWrap I can ship directly to my house.

Hmm if anyone tries either out post an update I’d like to see/ hear about results

So over the weekend, my girlfriend decided she wanted to do something to her car while I was getting shit done in the garage…

She got the gray and a few cans of clear. She cleaned the wheels with wax and grease remover before spraying. The stuff actually lays down really well, I was impressed. It looks more like paint than plastidip does. She sprayed about 4 coats on each wheel before the clear. The colors are very flat but it lays down a lot smoother than plastidip.

After the 4 coats of gray, she used the clear they have. The clear really changes the finish. It goes more to a satin type finish but doesn’t appear like a rubber coating like plastidip does.

So first impression I already like it 10x more than plasti dip. It seems more durable. Supposedly it is very difficult to peel off, but no first hand experience on it.

I’ll see if the gf has any pictures of the wheels

to be honest I’ve always found peeling plastidip off a nightmare

Never peeled any plastidip so I wouldn’t know

are those 13s?

finish looks good. Was it more matte before the clear coat?

16’s

That gray looked very much like primer because it was so flat before the “glossifier”

man they’ve really cut plastidip’s grass

I have to say that fonzie guy revolutionized the whole plastidip thing. He’s famous. The guy at Canadian Tire (a big car parts+mechanic shop+department store) even mentioned him when I was talking to him and asking about where the plastidip was.

It’s now a ‘thing’ to plastidip your car, and it literally didn’t exist before Fonzie. It’s not my thing, but good on him.

I think i am going to try this stuff on my wheels here shortly

So am I to understand that I can:

buy a can of some sort of black rustoleum for $10, and a can of gloss rustoleum for $10, and apply these to my grey rear valance, and if I don’t like how it comes out I can remove it at which point my car is as before and I’m only out $20?

Pretty much.

yes

however removal isn’t always super easy. Some guys have great luck with it. I don’t seem to.

Your car is black though, so going black won’t look right. It will look like an A5 2.0T non s-line.

If you want to remove all of it, they make a ‘Dip Dissolver’ that breaks it down enough that you can just pressure wash it off. Would work fine for wheels, grills, etc. I’ve also heard that WD-40 will give you the same result.

Wax and grease remover works well for anyone that has it. I use it to remove tire marks and found it works to remove small remaining sections. I usually peel as much as I can before I use the cleaner
