Pocket Dyno (app)

I have yet to try this out since its an apple only app (cant find anything like it for android) but it looks legit and has good reviews.

Has anyone tried this app out?

I guess you calibrate it with temp, weight, etc… and secure the ipad/iphone and it gives you 0-60, 1/4, 0-30. 0-100 times. Saki may like this if it works  Obviously not a replacement of the track but something to test your mods out with if youre using the same stretch of road.

Thoughts?

I haven’t tried it but I use something similar called torque. It does all that and more including logging and reading non proprietary faults.

Bigserve…torque is Android friendly.

Aww! Thanks Saki, I was hoping to bring something new to share with everyone! (it’s nice when the noob finds something new for the experience enthusiast)

I have the app and think it works very well. It might not be %100 accurate (within 1-2 tenths?) but it is very consistent and can give you useful information for gains after mods. Here’s a pic of the time slip it provides. It also gives you a full break down of 0-10, 0-20 etc, wheel HP, date and time and g’s.

idk why it came over pink. It’s a screen shot off my phone. The calculated WHP was 307 for this run.

Thanks Jim, I dl’d the app however there is no instructions for use. My phone is already connected via bluetooth do i need some other blue tooth connection?

Connected to bluetooth as in to a bluetooth OBDII device and not the car’s phone system?

Through the phone system. Whats the OBDII? :-[

Come on man…really? Google it next time. It’s On-Board Diagnostics system used for emissions and fault codes.

I guess if you aren’t from the North America it may be called something else like EOBD

You can probably pick up a cheap adapter that would probably work on eBay. I picked one up on dealextreme for around $20 when it went on sale.

Depending on the Bluetooth stack on your phone, you may not be able to connect to multiple devices at once (ie: both obdii and telephone). Most cellphones made in the last 3 or so years should be fine though.

Thanks Mistro! Appreciate you taking the time to explain it for me

looks to be about 4 mph optimistic on trap and a b7 with those mods and a 1.98 60 foot would struggle to get into the 12s… According to my calculator your time should have been 13.12 or so with that launch and 330 foot.
as you said though delta is all that matters. Do you have any before runs? Or just while modded?

p.s. THe fake time slip is cool. Probably enough to get you on the audizin b8 s4 quarter mile list lol… Would be great to try that…say you’re an apr tune 93 mt6 b8 and you’re struggling with traction and launching.

Those times are optimistic for sure.

I did do quite a few runs pre-tune and pre catless dp’s. 0-60 time averaged to be 5.3 and 330’ was 6 flat. After tune and dp’s 0-60 averages out at 4.6 with a 330’ of 5.5. Quite a difference and all results were fairly consistent. I don’t know how accurate that is in the real world but the delta is definitely real. 60’ times were all pretty much garbage. 1.98 is the best I’ve registered. This could be due to the health of my clutch at the time. I have yet to register any runs with my new clutch but I can really feel the difference in the launch.

that’s a huge difference…and that’s just about what I would expect in real life.

My car, using my pbox, was consistently in the 4.9-5.0 second range to 60mph with 1 foot of rollout. Once tuned/2.5" catless/FI and using launch assist, I was down in the 4.4-4.6 range.

p.s. a good tip if you ever want to guestimate your 1/4 mile time using 330 foot time on a maual B6/7 S4 multiply the 330 foot time by 2.41. Should be pretty accurate unless you really blew the launch. Here are a couple of examples. Within a tenth of your quarter mile time usually.
