Pop in rear with side to side movement

Hey guys if I open my rear passenger side door and push the car side to side I get a loud pop that sounds to be coming from the rear passenger tire. At first I thought it was my end links but everything seems tight, I jacked up each control arm and cannot replicate the noise. My exhaust doesn’t appear to hit anything. Any suggestions?

Jack up the car with the rear off the ground and pull and push on the wheel. Let us know if that makes the noise

I got a dollar that says it 034 links. See this link to my post.

That is a good guess but the 034 end links use a heim with an insert that has a lip to bolt to the sway bar that would prevent it from slipping.

On the other hand, I appreciate the link. I’m going to install my 034 rear control arms that do have the spherical bearings with that loctite to prevent this from happening in the future now. I guess the broken crossmember may have been a blessing in disguise?

I didn’t know as my experience is with my TTS. Good to know this platform had a better design.

It is indeed the end link. The upper portion with the ball joint that moves around has play and is popping when stressed. I actually has a snapped bolt last month from the same side that was replaced.

I originally jacked the car up and had it on stands justin and tried moving everything and making sure all bolts were tight for about 2 hours. I stopped by a friends workplace and they let me put it up on thier aligntment machine and while standing underneath we were able to identify the issue.

Well damn, shows how much I know  So was the ball moving around inside the heim joint or is the black insert moving? Do you happen to have a picture? More end link problems is the last thing I want to deal with now.

What is your Hotchkis RS4 RSB set at?
I’ve heard quite a few people snap their end links when it’s set to soft setting. However, those were stock and stern end links. I believe this is the first case I’ve read regarding 034MS end links. Hopefully that’s just a random single issue.

Stiff. Is there any other way to go…lol

MDubz i can take a pic but you wont really see anything wrong. Ill try to take a video of it when i can

Thanks man. What was the response from 034? Did they say if this was an unusual occurrence? What did the replacement piece cost?

Glad you got it all sorted out.

They already sent me replacement bolts when the bolts snapped before (for free). Jeremy said he has never seen this before so im assuming its something out of the norm. I will say that driving in NYC is like driving in a 3rd world war torn country. The roads here from this past winter are absolutely fucking horrendous. I could try describing the potholes but only pics and in person viewing would be appropriate. Maybe the constant banging up down back and forth from potholes did something.

I emailed them this morning with my issue and we spoke but i havent been able to see if he replied to me yet (cant use personal email on work comp and the office im at today doesnt have cell signal).

Just a quick update. If it was the black piece up top they would have sent me another. However just to be on the safe side they are sending me an entire new end link for 55 bucks and 3 day shipping. With QDM being next week i decided to not play around and just get a new piece.

I will try to take a video and post the noise before i remove though. Should be swapping it out this weekend.
